Open Question

Loaded new cartridge and got error signal 30 stating that the cartridge is not there. It appears in properly. Troubleshooting intstructions suggest I view switch that hangs down from front left of cover. I don't see that. It appears to close properly. The printer is old, but has always worked great. Issue started with a paper jam and while correcting I decided to replace the cartridge. Help thanks

Cartridge Error .... help!? I've read all the other replies and it's not helped!


Just make sure you are using a genuine Lexmark cartridge and not some remanufactured, refilled or clone cartridges. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

i would suggest you to remove the left cartridge once and clean its golden metal contacts with soft cloth and reinstall it again.

this can give some difference

Black Cartriddge missing


Try taking out both cartridges from your printer. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds. When the printer turns on, re-insert your color cartridge then close the cover. If no error appears, re-insert your black cartridge. If error still appears, then it could be a faulty cartridge. It would be best to replace it with a new cartridge, preferably a genuine one. Lexmark products work best when original supplies are used.

Have closed cover properly. cover vup sign still there.

  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.
  9. If no error appears, try to print again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Error #1203


The error indicates either a communication failure between the cartridges and the printer or by a short in one of the cartridges. Print Cartridge problem


OK, it sounds like the printer needs to be reset or turned off and on again, including unpluging it from the wall for 30 seconds or so.

If the new tri color print cartridge is not at fault, it's the circuitry in the printer.

Cartridge Error


There might be a part inside the printer that is broken. The carriage might have been damage also. You've already done the hard reset and also replace the cartridges, then the only solution for this is to replace the printer since there is a broken part on it.
