Question about Alpine MRP-M500 Car Audio Amplifier

Brand New MRP-M500 light is on but there is no sound

I have this amp hooked up to my rear speakers and a 12 inch 2 ohm subwoofer. When I turn on my stereo, the light on the amp turns on but no power goes to the subwoofer or the rear speakers. I cheched the fuses and they are all fine.

I had the same problem when I installed that amp in my car. I have a '07 Toyota Corolla and I just retro-fitted the new amp where the older Alpine amp(MRD-M301) already was. The amp was on, the light was lit, but there was very little sound coming from the subwoofer(SWR-1243D). I say little because if I cranked up the gain and the bass boost you could hear a little bit of sound. I started to think that the ground I had wasn't good enough. I screwed the ring terminal at the end of the ground wire to a sanded off part of the trunk (bare metal, no paint). I think the metal isn't the best for grounding. It's like an aluminum alloy of some kind. Very Soft. I think I will get the Kenwood KAC-8105D and see how that works. Same specs as the MRP-M500.

Try making sure your sound input to the amp is good (could be a bad output from the radio or RCA cable), could also be a bad input from the amp, bad outputs from the amp or even a bad sub. You have to check each of these and eliminate the problem. I would make sure you have a good audio signal to the amp first.

The first thing I checked was the signal flow. But everything worked with the older amp so why didn't it work with the new amp.

What amp would be better to use with what speakers/sub? I have a KAC-7202 kenwood 920W maximum power (150wX2 RMS, 4ohms) (230wX2 RMS 2ohms) and then the other amp I have is a Alpine MRP-M500 mono power...

I'm using that Alpine right now for 2-12" subs and I have compared it to 6 or 7 other amps this month and most were 4 channel 150Watt/Channel Bridged to 300Watts x 2 and found the Alpine to be superior in both sound quality and loudness. The Alpine has also not turned off even with full volume for hours at a time, Very solid amp I was very surprised due to it's size!

Check the sub with a multimeter. It should read the ohms it is rated at when you hook it to the positive & negative inputs. It its off your coil if bad.

About Power supply wires (MRP-M1000 only)

• 21mm2 is the minimum power and ground cable size

that should be used to connect this amplifier. The

length of these cables should not exceed 1m to assure

safe operation.

• If the length of the power and ground cables exceed

1m, or if you connect more than one amplifier, a distribution

block should be used with 33mm2 or 53mm2

power and ground cables depending on the length

necessary. Ensure that you install a correctly-rated

in-line fuse on the power cable near the battery positive

post.

off the same amp? you have two way different sounding speakers man. you can buy 2 identical speakers from the same company and brand and series and they will play differently every time. you have 2 speakers with nothing in common so you will hear a difference and maybe interference because of the different ohm levels.

Best amp for Kicker Sub

Hello dalex7,

The Kicker 08ZX400.1 would be a great amp for your subwoofer. It will work into a 4ohm load with no problems.

But you can buy an amp with more power, looks better, has a smaller footprint, and cost less than the 400.1. I'd look at the Alpine MRP-M500. Take a look at it here at Crutchfield. The M500 is also easy to install, runs cool, and is very efficient.

Hope this helps.

Again as I have stated in my other answer to you. You can not wire two SVC 2 ohm subs to acheive a 2 ohm load. more than likely you are running your amp at 1 ohm mono and this is why it is clipping and shutting off.

Amp is on, Subwoofer works, but no sound.

here is a short test you can try, remove the rca audio cable from the amp & connect a diskman or toher audio o/p device that you can hook up with the same rca wires, turn on the amp & see if you have sound. you can also remove the speaker wires from the sub & using multi meter read the ohm's of the sub, most subs are 4 ohm. Hope this help locate your problem
