Re: Samsung R40 sound has disappeared

Hi Steve

there is an icon on the status bar on the bottom right of the computer for the sound volume can you just make sure the volume hasn't been turned off. it a small speaker. If its ok you can try the following. Just one question.

Do you have any of the disks that came with the PC or did you but it second hand. If you have the disk you have to first uninstall the sound driver if they are not working properly before you can reinstall it.

Can you first check whats the story with the drivers in hardware manager. I'll tell you how to get to it. BE very careful in here you could cause major problems if you go changing settings in here so try and follow along and dont change anything just tell me what is happen in the settings.

Go to Start > you will see my computer icon. Right Click and go to properties. there are seven tabs at the top click hardwre > device manager > you need to scrool down to Sound, Video and game controller. Click to highlight it or double click to open it or click the small + sign to the left once highlighted it opens the menu. Can you come back and tell me what it looks like. don't go at anything else in here.

Could you make sure you speaker wire is plugged in properly. Im just going through the obvious. but it can get removed if you move the computer.

check in your device manager settings and make sure you dont have any yellow questionmark next to the listing "sound, audio, and game controllers"and also "system devices"if there is you need to download drivers. You can click the plus sign to open the list and then right click the one with the yellow questionmark and click check for update, then continue following prompts in the next series of boxes that pop up.
