Well, lets walk through it one more time just to make sure. Control panel > Power Options > Advanced Tab > Look in the option window which is first section under tabs, make sure that the "Always show icon on the taskbar" is checked. Click on apply and ok.

My icon for the battery power monitor has dissapeared from my taskbar can you help me get it back please

Do you have Windows 7? If so, you can right-click on the bottom right corner of your desktop (try right-clicking the time/date), where the icons for volume control, wireless, battery, etc... should be and select Properties. You should then see a screen where you can turn on/off the icons/notifications for battery power (sometimes my volume control disappears and i have to do this.
Otherwise you can go here, Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons and you should find the same thing. Then just turn on your battery power icon/notifications.
Hope this helps.

A new box will open on your screen, on the volume tab is a check box for "Place volume control on taskbar" be sure it is checked. Exit the screen and your volume control should be back.
