I just called Oster Service and the said to plug in the unit, hold the start button for 10 seconds and unplug the unit. My oven reset before I was able to try this, so let me know if this works for you.
3+ years later...I had the same beeping error problem. Tried this solution and it worked like a charm!
I have tried it 4 x and it still beeps...ugh!
It is overheating or a bad sensor believes it's overheating. If your power cord is also excessively hot, it is probably drawing too much current. Punt.

I sent a letter to Oster becauase I didn't get anywhere by phone. I got a return call from their customer service department. They sent me a new toaster in one week...we'll see how long this one lasts......
We called Oster customer service and explained the error message. They asked for a number on the plug and then asked a few questions about the toaster.
They are sending a new toaster to us in two to three weeks. The new toaster will be identical to our current model, but will not have a warranty.

I have the 6248 toaster oven. It has a digital display and buttons instead of dials and knobs. Today, the display says "Err" and the toaster oven beeps sporadically. The Err message appeared when the oven was not in use. Toast was made a few minutes before. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, but problem remains.
I have the 6248 model, and also have the same exact problem! Very frustrating since the owner's manual doesn't mention it. The error message beeps both on or off. Sometimes it goes back to normal after unplugging it a while, but then beeps while in use again... Any suggestions?
I'm having exactly the same problem! Nothing in the manual or on thw Oster website. I expected better from Oster especially for what i paid for the darned thing.
please email me if anyone comes up with a solution to fix this. thanks.
I have the same problem and cannot seem to find a solution, does anyone know how to fix this problem??
Same thing for me. Toaster started beeping in the middle of night. Can't find out how to fix it. Whenever I plug it into different outlets it just keeps beeping and showing Error on the lcd.
Our two year old Oster has the same problems. We won't be buying another Oster.
I too have the same problem and purchased it from Bed bath and Beyond less than 1 year ago.
Yep - Same problem here. No reference to error message in the manual. Got the 6248 as a Christmas gift in 2007, so it's "out of warranty". Customer Service asked for the code on the plug. It identified our unit as out of warranty, so they provided a Service Center phone number. Called Service center. "No serviceable parts" they said, "so we cannot repair it". This center seems pretty abrupt in their response, bordering on rude and condescending (Cincinnati). No solution here since it's evidently a defect in the electronics. Sure was a great oven for the 1 year of use it got though. Too bad I can't just go to eBay and get a replacement board and replace it like a RAM stick for my computer! Nothing like built-in obsolescence. Moral - don't buy this unit unless you are willing to take the risk.
Unbelievable! Oster doesn't seem to be standing behind their products. I will never buy another Oster.
Exact same problem here. I'm e-mailing their customer service. This toaster oven is less than 2 years old!!
