Question about Garden

My John Deere 6.5 HP S.P. lawn mower suddenly stopped running. I discovered the Kill switch was broken and bypassed it with a jumper. I replaced the spark plug also, but it still won't start. Any suggestion?

actually, it is the interlock switch and the plug sparks with the switch disconnected. A small amount of gas put in the cylinder gets it to fire, but it will not run. Seems to be a fuel problem now.

When you bypassed the switch what did you connect the wire to.
This is an earth wire, keep it loose and see if the engine will start, if it will,
touch the wire against the engine and it will stop. Stephen

John deere L20 tractor mower will not start. it wont even turnover. i think it has something to do with the pto kill switch

There probably several kill switched, on the PTO and another under the seat. For diagnostic purposes only the switches can be jumped with a wire to see which switch is bad. Once it is located remove it and replace it with a new one.

How to test a solenoid for a John Deere 115 Lawn Tractor with 42" deck?

http://www.greenpartstore.com/assets/images/instructions/2012/am138497_installation_instructions.pdf

John Deere Starter Solenoid Kit AM138497

First make sure the negative battery cable is making good contact on the frame or what ever part of the mower it is connected to. Make sure both battery cables are clean and not corroded and are tight. Then try to start the mower. If it works, fine. If not then you will bypass the solenoid and see if the starter turns the engine. To bypass the solenoid take a car jumper cable and connect one clamp to the terminal on the solenoid that goes to the battery ( see the diagrams in the links above) Turn the ignition switch to the on position. Take the other end of the same color of the jumper cable (say you'll use the red clamps) and touch the clamp to the other large terminal on the solenoid, which goes to the starter. If the starter turns the engine, then you know the starter is good and that the solenoid is bad. If the starter does not turn the engine then the starter is bad. make sure you DO NOT touch the jumper cable to the starter case or any other ground.

Lx 176 John Deere stopped running suddenly. Found this wire disconnected where does it go?

Probably the kill switch wire that would normally attach to the throttle linkage plate to complete a ground circuit for the ignition coil. If you can follow it and see if it ends up at the ignition/kill switch

I have a 14 HP Kawasaki engine on my John Deere lawn mower (LX176). I have no spark.I'm guessing coil but unsure of how to test it. I get readings through the windings with an OHM meter but I don't know...

All the "safety" engine-kill "features" on this mower will ground the ignition system, stopping the engine and causing a no-spark condition. Check the seat switch, the brake switch. Also, the circuit board will cause the problem you have if it gets rained on, (the mower hood does not protect it); point is do not let the mower get rained on (or washed) unless you protect the PC board, which is right behind the ignition switch. Mine dried out and worked again but only after liberal spraying with (plastic-safe) electronic parts cleaner. You are right the manual would help, it's like $76 but it's in depth. Good luck, and PLEASE tell us what the solution was! -Tom

Helpful Deere lx176, lx178, hood hinge tip: If the hood hinge is broken on yours like on most, Deere has a GREAT repair kit that's only $10. They really priced it at cost or less to correct a defect they are aware of.

You must be in the seat to run the mower ... safety interlocks ... operator presence control is what it is called.
