My office jet G85 has the message "remove and check color

Cartride. It will accept and print a fax, make a copy, but not print from the computer.

Check and make sure you drivers are up to date. You may need to un-install the printer software and remove the printer in the control panel. Then reboot the computer,install the software(check and see if there is updated software if so download it).Then install the software and usually gives you instructions on when to connect the printer and drivers should be installed by software. Also make sure that when you use the print screen that you have the default printer selected and that the office jet is the default printer. It may be set to print to Microsoft one note for example.

How old is the cartridge? It may have a built-in chip that activates this message, and it may be time to replace it. The reason the fax still works may be because a small reserve is left for just that purpose in case you don't get back to your computer in time.

My office jet G85 won't print. No error messages appear,it has a new color cartridge,it copies, but won't print from my computer.


If it copies ok, then the issue is either the way it is cabled to computer or the print driver software settings on pc.... How is it connected via USB? Check port and correct driver is in windows/control panel/printers. Reinstall.

I just got a new windows 7 laptop and my hp j4680c all in one will print and fax but not scan?

First check your printer is it copying manually from the printer screen? to copy put a page in the scanner close it and look for a button or an option in the printer which says black or color copying and press it whithout having it connected to the laptop.if it prints then you have a problem in drivers in the laptop. Reinstall them fully not partially

When I print colored copies on my Office Jet L7680 All in One, there are red lines through the photo. I have changed the cartridges but still have the lines. Can you help?


check heads of printer. clean it,check paper path and clean it internally.try to upgrade your system software.if the computer generated prints are OK but copies are effected then you must be check, clean or replace scanner unit.

When the HP Office jet series all-in-one front panel screen displays Memory Full, the HP Office jet all-in-one is not able to send, receive or forward faxes. Copying will also not work. WORKAROUND: Though the memory buffer should clear itself automatically after proceeding with the next task, like receiving a fax or starting a copy job, these suggestions below may help you clearing the memory buffer by:
  • Add paper to the HP Officejet series paper tray
  • Clear a possible print jam and proceed printing the fax.
  • Reduce the copying or faxing resolution via the front panel's menu.
  • Use the HP Manager to send a (group) fax or making a copy. More memory is available this way, as the HP Manager utilizes the PC memory. When sending a group fax, the HP Officejet all-in-one's memory is filled to capacity. To copy in color is only possible from the HP Officejet Manager.
  • Press START to clear the message. If this message persists, unplug the power cord, and after at least 15 seconds plug the power cord in.
CAUSE: The HP Officejet series memory may be full due to: Copying on Photo quality or sending a group dial, which will use an extensive part of the internal memory's capacity. No paper in the paper supply tray, while receiving a fax. This may result that the data remains in the buffer. Print jam while receiving a fax or copying. The data is still stored in the buffer. System error displayed on the HP Officejet display window. SUMMARY: The HP Officejet series will not fax or copy without sufficient memory to store the data of the page in the buffer before printing the receiving fax or the copy.

Remove and Check Color Cartridge message


Just had the same problem on my G85. Did the cleaning of color contacts, the powering on and off, and the cleaning and aligning of heads to no avail. Last resort went to HP website (why is that always last resort?) and saw that sometimes the circuits confuse color and black cartridge problems. Cleaned black cartridge - problem cleared. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not.

Since this is an all-in-one. It could be any of the following: A software glitch since these are software driven. Check HP for updates. A clogged nozzle on the cartridge- try cleaning the cartridge print nozzle with a foam tip swap or coffee filter soaked with ink jet cleaner or 90% isopropyl alcohol. Try a different cartridge. Try cleaning the contacts. Try using the HP image zone software. Go to Setup, Tools, and Clean print cartridge. Worst case scenario bad flex cable or board.
