Well its tough to say, could be a harsh virus, or damaged registry. Try starting it up and as soon as it starts press f8 repeatedly until the safe mode menu is prompted, then from there pick a the option that best suits you, either safe mode or safe mode with networking. In just regular safe mode you can go in and remove harmful data from your hard drive. Maybe running under last know configuration might help. Let me know what happens.

My toshiba tablet won't let me go past the welcome screen

If this is under warranty take it back. If it isn't power the unit on with just the battery powering the unit. When you see the Windows splash screen drop the battery out after the screen goes black put the battery back in and press the power button. This should bring up the on screen menu telling you it failed to start or shut down correctly. Select, Boot in Safe Mode and see if the system will power on. If that fails you need to do a system restore. To access system restore options power the unit on and press and hold the F10 key, this will bring up the restore Windows options. From that menu select to restore your operating system. If that fails you will have to do a complete restore to factory default settings. If that fails you will have to replace the hard drive.

Tip

To Reboot or recovery from CD/DVD problem with OS "Aser"

If you don't press the Alt+F10 key combination or use the recovery CDs, can you get into Windows? Boot with the recovery CDs in. When at the Acer logo during POST, press the F12 key. Then, select boot off CD or DVD. Alternatively, you can enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key at the Acer logo and go to the Boot tab. There, you can set the CD/DVD drive as the first item in the boot order.
When turning your laptop on, before Windows starts booting, a splash screen appears first (usually with the logo of the manufacturer). Look on the splash screen (usually at the bottom) for a key (usually F10 or F11), assigned for System Recovery. Some manufacturer(s) (e.g. HP) place the recovery files to a hidden (mostly) partition of the hard drive, the others give a Recovery CD/DVD with the laptop.
or
  1. Press the start button from the start menu depending on your operating system(win 2000,xp)
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+delete combination from the keyboard.
  3. If you have a power button on your laptop keyboard,it could also be useful by pressing and hold it down for few seconds

N.B: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" can exit you from usage and trigger a reboot
or Shutdown. Try and reboot using the operating system. Attempt to use the key combination that will allow you to exit from the operating system and restart the laptop. Be patient, as it may take some time if it has locked up. Hold down the power button. If the operating system's answer to the rebooting will not work, find and hold down the power button of the laptop. This should cause the device to shut itself off. You'll have to press the power button again to power it back on, completing the reboot.
Unplug from the wall and remove the battery. If restarting via the operating system and the power button do not work, unplug the laptop from the wall outlet, and remove the battery from the laptop. This will cause it to power off immediately. Allow time to reboot. Give the laptop time to cool down before you power it back on if you had to do this manually.A few seconds should do unless you have additional problems.

All the Best!

Sony vaio lcd screen turns black after start up

graphics card software fault. start the pc and get it to bring up the start menu where you see options such as safe mode, usually holding down f8 when you boot. (If all else fails whilst windows is loading hold down your power button to power it off then it should automatically ask you what to do.)
select restore to known good configuration.
If that does cure it boot to safe mode and do a system roll back (restore) to an earlier time when it did work
If that doesn't work, also in safe mode you can try removing the graphics card drivers and forcing it to load windows default drivers. then update from the website.
If nothing works, not even safe mode then you'll need to use your windows disks or recovery discs. If you fear losing everything then try downloading and burning a ubuntu live disc on another PC and use that to load your laptop then copy and back up your files to another drive or usb stick using the ubuntu operating system.
