Please see this post and this article.
I would think you could find the original drivers at the hp site, here, but I don't see them. Did you change out the original drive? See here for Mitsumi support, and use this tutorial to update your windows drivers. If that doesn't work, I guess that registry patch is in order.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

If you decide to apply that registry fix, it would be a good idea to set a restore point ahead of time, and download and run Erunt, to ensure that you have a full registry backup, just in case...

Glad to hear it.! Nice going.

Erunt is a great free utility that can be set to create a daily backup of the registry, in case it were ever needed, and then it would be indispensible.

I don't know how that file got corrupted, but it may be time to do some routine maintenance. See here.

And you might think about running chkdsk to scan the hard drive for corrupt clusters. Instrucitons here and here.

Hi, the error code that you have on the CD/DVD drive is a known issue from Microsoft. The error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)".
Since you are using a Toshiba laptop; you can click on this link http://tinyurl.com/toshibadvd and click on the repair tool on the resolution. This is applicable on both Windows Xp and Vista and will delete the upper/lowerfilters on the registry.

In case that the error code still exist you need to manually delete the upper/lowerfilters under the registry by clicking on this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us . You need to go the "Run" screen then type in "regedit" and click OK or hit the enter key.

This will surely fix the error code that you have on the CD/DVD drive.

Thanks
