How to put on serpentine belt

loosen belt tentioner - remove old belt- mount new belt- tighten belt tentioner.

you may also want to check if there is any slack in the tentioner pulley as these often wear out too.

Where is the tension belt pulley located on my 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS

it should be the one that is about 5" and the belt goes around it. The arm that is connected to the pulley is spring loaded and when they wear out they loose the tension.
Also the bearing on the pulley go bad and they brake apart and the pulley falls off making your belt fall off.
Under side of the hood and the front side of engine compartment or by the wheel strut tower area there will be a sticker with a diagram of your belt and it will show your tentioner..

How to replace the tention idler pulley

using a breaker bar or some other tool w/ 1/2'' drive, insert into idler, there is a square hole, remove belt tension, donot remove belt, but lift belt off say the alternator, it would help if you hang the belt w/ wire or something so as not to let it drop. using a 15mm wrench, remove mounting bolt to idler, remove idler. better to replace the entire ilder w/ pulley, as an assymbly, they wear out like any thing else. when istalling new idler, must be positioned correctly. theres a finger which protrudes out of idler, this must be inserted @ engine sideof idler. reinstall bolt, tighten, reposition belt, using breaker bar 1/2" drive again, remove belt tension, so you can get belt over alternator pulley, release tension , done ! make sure belt is centered, and on properly according to belt rounting. when satisfied w/installation , start engine, check your work, remember to visulize existing idler, etc., etc., before you start this so you can put on the new one on exactly the way the old one was !!!!!!!!!!1

I replaced the serpentine belt on my 2002 accura rsx type s it sqeaks and seems loose is there any way to tighten it....tks

The tentioner should keep the belt at the right tention. Are you sure its the belt? I had some squeaking in my 05' RSX and replaced the Tentioner Pulley and the squeaking went away. Maybe this could be the same case. Hope this helps.

Putting belt back on. is there a tension pulley or what

if its a 4.0 then not exactly. the power steering pump is the tentioner. its not spring loaded. you will need a 13mm wrench. loosen the pump a bit and tighten up the belt with a long bolt just under the pump from the air cleaner side. you will feel the belt get more tention. just dont over tighten it,

How to release tention on surpintine belt

hi...

use a 15mm wrench on the face of the pulley and a 15mm socket with a swivel behind the bracket holding the pulley. You will be very close to the coolant temp sensor so be careful. loosen the bolt and the belt will fall off

to replace the loosened belt to normal position do the following......

Route the belt as it was and tighten in the reverse of what you did to remove it. A new belt may require the tension er to be slackened off even more to get it on. Belt routing diagram should be on the radiator.

if you are satisfied with my solution then rate for me....thank you for using fixya.....
