"F02" is a Long Drain error code. The following link explains:

Usually this means the drain pump is clogged any needs cleaned out. There is a follow-on link included in the instructions I provided that explain how to do this.

Read through the link and follow the steps listed. If these preliminary measures do not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor on these drain pumps. Since the error occurs if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and not pumping at the required volume, the error code with continue to occur until the pump is replaced.

Replacements (if required) can be purchased at,,, or Shop all these sites for the best price.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You cannot view the drain pump by tipping the washing machine back because it has a solid cabinet bottom that prevents viewing the internal cabinet components. It is NOT recommend to even attempt to tip this machine back due to its weight.

It may be a coin or something in the pump itself.
Pull the machine away from the wall and tip it back so it's resting against the wall.
Look up inside and you will see the pump, attached to a black rubber hose with a jubilee type clip. Remove this and check in the pump for a coin or whatever shouldn't be their. Refit the hose and try again.

I have a LG top load washer, model WT5001CW that makes a grinding sound during agitation cycle but not during spin. Drains like it's supposed to. Any ideas?

This sounds like you have a problem with the tub suspension rods (4 of them) if one is faulty, you will have to replace all four of them to cure the problem.
It could be that they just need to be realigned as the grinding sound is the inner tub contacting the outer tub housing.

Drain water

"F09" is an Overflow Condition error. This is usually attributed to a malfunctioning pressure switch, loose or broken connector between the Pressure Switch, Drain Pump and Central Control Unit (CCU), or...a drain pump or drain line that has become clogged.

Since this problem occurs periodically during the wash cycle, I would check your drain pump filter for obstructions first. It could be that you have debris lodged in the pump causing it not to drain properly. To access the pump:

1. Unplug the washer.
2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: Placing a couple of blocks of wood under the front feet of the washer will make access much easier.
3. The drain pump is located under the wash tub in the center. HINT: If you own a shop vac, remove the drain line from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum through the drain line. This will remove all residual water from the washer and make clean up later a lot less messy. Now, remove the cover on the drain pump and remove. Clean out the pump filter and check the pump impeller for obstructions.

If you do not own a shop vac, place a bunch of towels around the drain pump BEFORE you open it. There's about a gallon or so of water in the tub, drain line and pump.

My Kenmore Front Load washer isn't completing the wash cycle. It stopped and the water is still in it. I pushed the stop button and switch the dial from normal wash to the drain and spin cycle, but...

Hi this sounds like a clogged pump or at the very least the pump filter screen is clogged. Double check the drain hose and make sure that it is not kinked. It is not a difficult job but without the right tools you can end up with all the water on the floor and it can be very messy. If you want to attempt it let me know. Otherwise I would recommend calling a service tech.

Kenmore Elite HE 3t washer - stops and flashes error code F 02

"F02" is a Long Drain error code. This is an indication that you may have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system somewhere. The washer will NOT complete a cycle with the condition present that is causing the error code. In most cases this means there is a clog in the drain pump or inlet line running from the wash tub to the pump. There is a white screw off cap on the drain pump that you can remove to inspect the pump impeller and clean. The following link explains:

Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris and small articles of clothing can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

NOTE: The "SUD" error code can often occur in conjunction with the "F02" error code. This is due to air being detected in the drainage system, which can occur if the pump is not running, or if you have an obstruction BEFORE the pump. You need to remove the inlet hose from the pump to ensure it is also not blocked. Correct your drainage system fault, and the SUD error should go away.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.

Washer still wont drain, even after cleaning drain pump line

"F02" is a Long Drain error. If you have managed to verify that the drain lines are clear from the tub - to the pump - the the wall, then this usually indicates that the pump has failed. It can be common for this pump to make noise and still not work.

Just to be sure: Is water running freely form the tub to the drain line when you drain the water? If not, make sure you double check the line from the tub to the pump. Is can be common for small articles of clothing (i.e., wash cloth or underwear) to get caught in this area and restrict water flow. Don't ask me how these items get between the wash tub and basket, but I have seen it happen.

The pump is usually sold as a complete unit and can be found at Just type in your model number and the part will be listed under the "Pump & Motor" heading. It is listed as item #10 (part #8181684) and sells for about $71.00.

This is a fairly simple job that you can accomplish yourself if you feel inclined to do so. If you click on my profile and look under "Tips and Tricks", I have step-by-step instructions posted on how to replace a drain pump like yours. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please post back and I will assist you further. I hope this answers all your questions.

Washer won't drain and is making a grinding sound

That grinding noise could be something caught in your drain pump.  The fact that it doesn't drain could be that something has lodged in the pump and either stopped the impeller from turning, or has ruined the pump.  This is actually a common problem with the small front load washers.  If you remove the lower panel just under the door the drain pump will located in the front on the right hand side.  You will need to remove the inlet hose from the pump.  This is the hose that runs from the tub to the pump.  Unplug the washer first, and drain any residual water from the tub by using a wet/dry shop vac and attaching it to the drain hose at the standpipe.  If you can manage to pull the water from the washer in this manner, you will avoid a huge mess later.  There's roughly 7 gallons of water in the tub when it is full.  I don't think you would want this much water gushing all over your floor.  With the drain line removed inspect the impeller of the pump for obstructions.  The most common culprit is coins, drill bits, screws and nails.  Even tooth picks and cotton swabs can stop the drain pump if they become lodged.  If you find the pump clogged and manage to clear it, you still may have to replace, however.  Just keep that in mind.  The pumps are usually pretty durable, but depending on how long it's been in it's current condition, it may have ruined the pump motor and/or impeller.  I hope you find this information helpful.  Good luck to you and post back with comments if you have any further questions.
