Question about Princeton Digital VL2018W Monitor

Vl2018W princeton monitor

I replace the 3 capacitors as indicated but I could only get 470 u 35 v capacitors at Radio Shack. They said that they do not handle the 50 v capacitors. The monitor lights up now and stays on but does not show anything on the screen. All I get is a bright blank scree. Did I really need to get 470 u 50 v capacitors? Is there any other issue that may be causing this problem. I check all the plug ins many times and they all seem to be okay.

Hello,

If the caps you took out are rated at 50v it is best to use that rating, lower value caps can short out and cause additional problems. Also a white screen means 1 of 2 things, either the power supply is still not putting out the right voltage or yo have a small fuse blown on the lcd panel. The most likely cause is the power supply is still not right. If you can take a few pictures of your power supply board and send them to me at tech@ccl-la.com I will see if I can cross reference the board with something and try to help you out.

My Princeton Monitor VL2018W does not have sharp colors.

I fixed many of these, look for bad caps.

Make sure to replace the whole set on the low DC power supply side with good caps, not from Radio Shack standard electrolytic type.

Had the blank screen problem. Now it won't work above 800x600 res

When I replace caps in this model, I replaced all the caps (4 (1000uF by the heat sink, 1 (470uF) by the inverter transformer) for the 5v and the 12v since you cannot 100% relying on just by looking bulging tops. I am not sure why your has 3-470uf. See my example here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Princeton%20VL2018W/

Help with PG vl2018w monitor

Yes.

There is a group of three transistors by the two power transistors on the bottom right of the card with the components facing you.

The two 1000uF caps are on the two that are connected to the two power transistors, with a 470uF cap in between them.

The fix worked perfectly. Only problem I had was having to switch to a vga cable because of dots... once I switched the red dots disappeared...

Amazing $7 worth of caps from radio shack saved, what about $200 monitor new?

Good luck!

When it's turned on, the light on my Princeton monitor blinks...

I just did this capacitor replacement today after reading these posts. It worked great! I used 470uF
35volt caps from radio shack. There are three 470uF caps two right next to each other and one off by itself on the printed circuit board. The values are easily seen on the side of the capacitors. Open the monitor by removing the screws and prying the halves apart using a large straight edge screwdriver. There is a metal cover over the printed circuit board that will come loose after removing screws around its edge. There are several wire sockets that must be unplugged to allow the circuit board to be flipped over to reveal the capacitors. The board itself is held down with three screws
Once you identify the capacitors, use a fine tipped soldering pencil to melt the solder holding the capacitors in place and remove them. Position the new caps with the dark stripe matching up to the lined marks on the board, carefully apply just enough solder to each terminal to hold the caps in place. Reassemble and you're done.

Can changing 3 capacitors on motherboard solve my problem?

We had a power surge and my VL2018W LCD monitor stopped working... blank screen and flashing blue light.

I carefully opened up the back and found the power board (the one the AC plug goes into). There were about 5 electrolytic capacitors that were bulging (but not ruptured). There were 3 with the values listed by the original poster (470uF @ 25V) and 2 with 1000uF @ 10V.

I scrounged a couple of 2200uF@10V caps for the last two and bought 3 470uF @ 35V caps from Radio Shack (P/N 272-1030).

Luckily, the monitor came right back up and seems to be OK. It was out of warranty, so there wasn't a big risk.

Just increasing the working voltage won't do that much for you. If any caps are bad, just replacing them with the same value is good enough, but a higher working voltage won't hurt (usually means a bigger cap).

Good luck.

Rich
