I`m guessing this is a Kenmore. If you can hear the motor running inside the head you need a new belt. If there are no visible screws underneath the hea at the front area where the brush sits, gently squeeze the sides of the light housing and you will find it pops off to expose two screws. Undo them and the lid will pop off the main body. You can find a replacement belt at sears or vac specialt shop. check to see the brush rolls freely and no hair is caught under the metal caps. There is a spacer washer under the caps on the end of the brush. DO NOT LOSE these.

Brushes will not turn around. Can this be a ez fix?

Without knowing the brand and model number, I can't assist too much. However, most all of them have a belt that turns the rotating brushes or "beater bar".

It looks like a large black rubber band, and does wear out at times causing this condition. It would be located under a removable panel on the bottom of the unit.

Also check to make sure there is no dirt or strings preventing the brushes from turning.

Electrolux Z61a brush not rotating

There should be a rubber belt somewhere along that roller, probably in the middle, behind the bottom cover plate, Remove the plate. That belt may have just slipped off the motor shaft, but it may be broken.

The belt could possibly be installed in either of two ways. The motor shaft is not parallel to the beater bar (brushes), so the belt must twist to wrap around both the motor shaft and the beater bar. If it's twisted one direction, the beater bar will rotate the correct direction (as if drying to pull the vacuum forward). Twisted the wrong way, it'll rotate the opposite direction. Try it one way, then bump the power switch to verify that the brush is rotating the correct direction before putting the bottom cover plate back on.

My XV 11 Vacuum keeps on bringing up the message " My vacuum is stuck"

This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.

Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.

+>> Unplug the mains lead from electrical socket <<+

• Turn cleaner over in flat position.
• Release lower plate by rotating the 3 lower plate latches to the UNLOCK position.
• Remove lower plate and remove any dirt that may exist in belt area.
• Remove beater bar by gripping the belt side of the beater bar and carefully lifting it out.
• Remove worn or broken belt.
• Clean beater bar and the end caps.
• Loop new belt around motor shaft and beater bar belt groove.
• Reinstall the beater bar by inserting the end cap of the beater bar to the slots at both ends of th beater bar.
• After reinstalling the beater bar, turn it by hand to make sure that belt is not twisted or pinched and that all rotating parts turn freely.
• Reinstall lower plate by hooking front end of lower plate into slots on front of nozzle.
• Press lower plate onto nozzle and secure by rotating the 3 lower plate latches to the LOCK position.

My vacum will not pick up, it is spitting the dirt out?

Check for blockage.

Most likely place is in the tube leading up from behind the beater bar. While unplugged, remove beater bar & belt & check.

If you have a strong shop vac, remove beater bar, belt, and bag, applying suction to the tube in back of the beater bar will many times dislodge the clog with little effort, sometimes though it will take some fishing around with a stiff piece of coathanger wire or similar.

Normally when you can apply suction with the shop vac to the tube in back of the beater bar & feel suction at the tube were the bag connects, you know you've got it all and you should be unclogged. Put it back together and you should be ready to roll.

I sucked up a piece of fabric and turned it off ASAP. Now the beater bar won't work, but the beater bar does turn. Help!

If the clothe is jammed in the power head you will need to clear it. Have the unit unplugged and manually rotate the beater bar to work the jammed material out. Sometimes a pair of pliers helps to grip the material while turning the beater bar. If there is no longer a jam then the drive belt may have been damaged and needs to be replaced. Usually when this happens the brush does not rotate. You can get a belt often at hardware stores such as ACE, or as a last resort, the dealer.

Kirby Heritage II. Beater bar does not turn. One end rotates freely, but the other sticks, preventing the bar from rotating. No obvious means to disassemble the end of the bar. Is there a way to repair...

The bearing is bad on the end that turns hard. You will need to purchase a new brush roll assembly. If the roller is older that 4 or 5 years, it should be changed anyway. The brush strips that scrub the carpet loose their strength after many years of combing through the carpet, so it's a good idea to change it every 5 years or so.

No suction from base or hose attachment

Hi,
I had the same problem with my Eureka vacuum cleaner. I don't have the problem with the beater bar, but I had the problem with the attachment hose not getting any suction. I found out that I was putting attachment on the wrong end of the hose. The end that you use in the front. Don't how I got that confused because it always worked before. Hope this helps with the hose part of the problem.

Beater bar has stopped turning

All beater and rotating brush bars are fairly easy to get to with a couple of screw on the bottom of your wan. They are driven by a belt and these belts come off, break, or the bar itself is stuck with rug material. Unplug your vacumn and get our screwdriver. It;s easy to figure out once inside the wan.

My vacuum doesnt **** dirt from the floor but sucks dirt with the nozzle.

Probably have a clogged intake from the beater bar thru to the vac system.. Try this.. with the vac unplugged, flip the vac over so you can get to the bottom of the vac head near where the brush rotates.. then depending on the model.. remove the cover to access the brush ( called a beater bar).
Once the cover has been removed ( may require removing several screws) .. look at the beater bar and make sure the belt is hooked up.. you should be able to lift that brush assembly out of the housing to expose the duct where dirt travels into the bag.. that path ( including the flex hose) is probably clogged up...clean out any debris found there.. ( if you have access to another vacuum..try sucking that junk out with it or use a stick or coat hanger to pry anything lodged in there out.. When that is clear, reassemble things and try it again.. Hope this helps you
