Hello

Is there a battery in the scanner? It takes times to clear out the breakers and find the right one. Be patient. It could be defective? Start on the top of the breakers on either side and vertically slide it down to the bottom then up the other side. Make sure it touches the breakers just to the left or right of the switches on each breaker. Again, it takes up to a minute to find the right. Once in awhile it chooses the wrong one.

Will not start & stops intermittently when operating (should it start)

Probably needs a new receiver. Try changing the frequencies in both the transmitter & receiver.

Fan will not turn on since wall switch was turned off then on.

Try changing the frequencies on the transmitter & receiver. If that doesn't work, you probably need a new receiver. The wall switch has to be in the on position for the remote to work.

if the breaker has tripped the test button won't do anything ,, for the breaker to trip something down stream of it is causing this to happen,, check all the switches and or receptacles in the circuit that are controlled by this breaker, 3 types of line problems cause tripping,, ground to line, Line to line, and line to neutral. in this ,, also consider that extension cords, faulty appliances , ( lamps, radios, anything plugged in with a feedback short ) will cause the breaker to trip. even a nail to hang a picture that pierced the wire can cause this, add to that , a AFCI breaker will trip much more easily than one thats not, or even a GFI breaker, , try this, if you have the knowledge to do electrical work in a panel, if not get someone who is, switch the tripping breaker with another one of the same value, ( in this case 15 amp) see if the one you put in place of the one thats giving you problems trips. If it doesn't, you have a weak or bad breaker, so just replace that one, if it does, your going to have to trace out that entire circuit to find the reason for the feed back into the panel

You can buy an inexpensive GFCI tester for as little as $10-$12. A better one with several mv settings will cost you a bit more. This way you can test this circuit and even GFCI receptacles. Then you'll know for sure if your breaker is working.

We're attempting to label circuit breakers in our home. One is currently labeled "WM" and it's not the washing machine. What might it be?

Hello

It could have been the washer at one time but the breakers got moved around over time. The washer should be on its own 20amp circuit. What size is the breaker? 20amp? 15amp? It is on the tip of the switch of the breaker. If it's a 20amp it should be for the kitchen or dining room outlets. It could also be for an air conditioner in the window. If it's a 15amp then it could be for lighting or other outlets other than the kitchen, dining room or ac outlet for window ac. That's just the basics. How old is the house? I've seen some really mixed up wiring in older houses. You could also buy a "Sperry" circiut breaker finder for about $50. It has a outlet plug that connects to an outlet and another handheld scanner that you scan the breakers with to find the correct breaker so that you can label it.

gfci's are designed to trip if they receive voltage on there ground/neutral side, therefore my vote is for Smithbrother I would say there is probably a partial short somewhere in you system.
