Try a hard reset. Shut it down. Remove the battery and disconnect the power cord. Hold the power button down for about 20 seconds to discharge the residual charge from capacitors. Reinstall battery and ac adaptor and attempt to power up...
If that doesn't work, write back...

How to boot from usb in macbook

Hi There,
Assuming that you have a bootable USB Drive of some sort, this is pretty easy to do!
Just connect the drive to one of the USB ports on your MacBook, and start/restart the laptop.
Immediately hold down the 'option' key until you see a screen come up listing the various available boot-up drives.
Then, release the 'option' key, and choose the drive you want to startup from:
-You can use the trackpad to point at the drive, and double-click on its icon; or,
-Use the 'tab' key to highlight the drive and hit 'enter' to choose it.
The MacBook should then go through the usual startup sequence, however it may take a little longer than if you were starting from the internal hard drive.
Hope this helps!

Apple macbook air won't turn on

Does the Apple logo or the Pinwheel show on the screen?

There is a problem with you OSX installation. Please boot from the Recovery partition (hold Cmd+R during the startup chime), and use Startup Disk to choose the correct hard drive to boot from.
You can also restore from a backup, and not lose your data here as well.

Take the 2 RAM chips out and make sure they are compatible with your computer and make sure the RAM chips are not broke or defective. Re-insert new RAM chips and make sure they are firmly inserted in their bays. Also, install disc 1 of your 2 disc gray set and hold down C key to boot from disc. Then click on tab for install English. Then go to the top of the screen to utilities and click on disk utility. Now on the left side of screen select your hard drive and then at bottom middle of screen select repair disc. Then when that's done select repair hard drive. Now quit the disc and choose restart from hard drive. See if that don't help ya any. Also, could be bad boot sector in which you will have to save all your data and re-install the operating system. If that don't work, then look into getting a new hard drive and then re-install the operating system. Take your computer into the Apple store and have the Apple dorks look into it if your still under warranty, because you just dropped down some serious cash on this machine.

My macbook pro OS 10.6.4 either freezes or crashes on startup. Crashed when trying to startup with Drive Genious 3, TechTool Pro 5, System Disk or Disk Warrior. Not sure what to do next. Tried holding ...

Restart your mac. As it's restarting/booting up, hold down the command, option, R and P keys simultaneously. As it's booting up and you're holding these keys, you should hear the startup chime, continue to hold the keys down, it will cycle and you'll hear the startup chimes again. Let it go thru this cycle 7 (seven) times before you let up on those keys. Once it's cycled 7 times, let it boot up normally.
If that doesn't work, then reinstall the original system software that came with the Macbook. You may have to reformat the hard disk and do a clean install.

Mac book only shows apple logo when turned on

This could be an issue where you may have a few Startup items in your StartupItems folder in your System Library which may be affecting your Macbook's startup.

So I recommend you boot your Mac into Safe Mode to see if you can't remove a possible folder(s) that may be affecting your Mac's start up function.

Try these steps:

-SAFE BOOT MODE-
• Reboot your Mac
• Upon restarting your Mac, press the Shift key.

• Hold the Shift key until you see a White Screen with Gray Apple icon and eventually a spinning gear.
• When you see the Spinning gear, release the Shift key.

• Allow the Mac to continue booting up. Also this may take a little while.
(NOTE: this may take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to load to the Safe mode screen depending on the performance of your Mac, but if it exceeds this time, shutdown your Mac and try just once more. It may have just frozen up the first time around for you.)

• You are going to enter the Safe Mode (which looks like your main desktop environment the only difference is certain start up items are disabled.)

• Once within the Desktop in Safe Mode
• From the Finder Menu, click Go> Go to Folder
• Type in this line: /System/Library/StartupItems

• This path, is going to take you to the System Library folder which has all of your Mac OS X Startupitems.

• Remove all of those folders to the Trash.

*Reboot your Mac normally and see if you can access your normal User desktop environment.

Let me know if this helps!

My macbook is frozen with the folder icon showing on a blank screen with a question mark on it? Help

It sounds like your MacBook can not find the system software to boot up. This is often a sign of a hard drive going bad. Try booting from the CD/DVD that came with your MacBook and running Disk Utility.
You can also refer to this article:

Good luck!
I hope this helps.

Hello
This can be hardware or software related...
If you can see the dock, it means that the system started up with success, but had a hard time to get your account running.
You should try these:
- Press the shift key at startup for 15 seconds at the startup chime). this will check your hard drive, and deactivate extensions. it will ask for your password.
- If you see your desktop, and the apple, then go to the apple menu - system preferences - accounts -startup items tab. Delete all the startup items
- If it did nothing, the you should try to boot from your OS DVD pressing the c key at startup, abd repair the disk's permissions here
- At last, reinstall your system, choosing the "archive and install" option when requested
Hope this helps
