Recovery Tool not working

I tried using the recovery tool to reload the firmware on my Zen V Plus, which is stuck in Recovery Mode, but it didn't work - it just said an "unexpected error had occurred," and then closed.

Format player then use recovery tool you have a corrupted file that keeps affecting the rebuild.

Creative zen v plus. when i turn on it says its in recovery mode thats all it will do i reformated it but it does not allow me to put music or anything else on it


Connect you player to your computer and use the recovery tool provided by creative labs.

You'll have to reflash te firmware with this tool.

When the firmware is lost on a zen or any other creative labs mp3 player, the mp3 player boots into recovery mode.

Note when doing this, all data on the mp3 player can get lost.

I can't sync my Zen Plus w/ WMP


I ended up going into the recovery mode by pressing the play button and power,,, release the play. It displays the option of Reformmatting and or Reloading O/S. When you do this the computer USB didn't recognize the device. I found that if you use the creative zen recovery tool you can depress the devices return button which allows the software to recognize zen. The recovery tool promted firmware load,, load was successful. For some reason the player went dead after that but this morning I disconnected and reloaded songs. I thought this a.m. I was going to be back to square one but apparently I was tired from the struggle.

Stuck in recovery mode--would love to avoid buying a new mp3


I had the same problem as your and it stopped working yesterday. After search for helps and now it is working again after I reloaded the firmware. But unfortunately everything is gone. You have to reload your musics again. You can try this out: 1) go to creative labs website to download the "Recovery Tool". 2) at Recovery Mode of your zen there are options: Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, and Reboot. Try out Clean Up first if it still not working then try to Format All. After that try the Reload Firmware. After you done the Reload Firmware. 3) Shut down your Zen and try to connect it to your computer. Now your Zen will automaticlly power On and computer will recognize it as a drive. 4) Open the Recovery Tool you have downloaded at creative labs website. This tool will detect your Zen and follow it's instructions: It works with my windows Vista. Well, it works for me, I think it will work for your too. Good Luck!

I agree, use the Reload Firmware tool on recovery mode and then upgrade the firmware from the website. If you get "firmware failed!", then try it from a different computer.

you should not have had to install anything for the Zen to work on Vista. If you have installed any Creative software, remove it. Reboot, plug your player in, open Device Manager, and remove the device that shows up representing your player (completely uninstall it). Reboot again, and plug in your player. It should be recognized now.

If that still doesn't work, then boot your player into Recovery Mode, and perform both a Disk Cleanup and a Reformat. Reboot the player and try plugging it in again.
if it still doesn't try another computer and upload the latest firmware to it and then try it on your pc after firmware is loaded

The same problem happened to my sister when she reformatted. All you have to do is go on the internet fine the latest firwire software and download it on to your Zen V Plus.

Zen stuck


Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.
