Hello Firstly , what type of setup do you have? Are you using a PC or a Laptop? Is there a beep code , and if so...what make and model laptop/motherboard do you own and what is the combination of beeps (beep count and long/short). If not , the problem is most probably either a power supply or a blown motherboard or CPU. If you use a PC and the warranty is not voided by removing the cover ,remove the AC and open the side panel and physically check if all connections are firm by applying pressure. Plug in the AC power supply and switch on your PC. Note if all the fans in the system is running and note any unknown noises you do not recognize. Send me a reply to these questions and I will be better able to assist you.

Insky_356,
Is this a notebook and who makes it?
If this is a notebook, you might have burnt out your LCD inverter. It is located under your keyboard.
Hope this helpful

Please can someone help me, I have an acer, model aspire 5535 laptop, Vista home basic OS installed, with a serious fault of not booting up. The night before it went dead it was working fine all evening...

Have you tried a different HD. If the vista download was the last thing you did, i would have thought that was your problem.
BUT i cant see that this would stop it from detecting the hard drive.
I had a similar problem on a desktop with a vista update, it had turned off my main hard drive as a bootable device in the bios, I dont know if you can get into the bios, but it may be worth taking a look

Sounds like a system board or processor failure.

Blank Screen on HP Laptop

HP has identified a issue with the DV6000Z and monitor. I just reported the same problem to HP and even though off warranty, they will fix free. Power up of DV6000Z you will get 3 beeps and no monitor display. External monitor does not work either. This is a known issue woth the DV6000Z.

Screen seems to dim and there is flickering while watching

This is both a common and fairly easy repair in this unit. Remove the back, but not all of the back needs to be removed to access the power supply area and locate the power supply board. You might find that all three E919,E920,E921 of the 35v/680uf caps in the upper left of the PS board are bowed and/or vented. Replace all three of them even if they test good...
Next, esr the remaining caps. Last one we did here in the shop there were 16 total that we replaced, many were orange in color but I don't have any notes on their value. The orange color of the cap is a lesser temp range we used 105 degree or better as replacements. Some we used a higher rated cap (higher voltage) same uf rating. Gave it a greater reliability.
Good Luck!
Bill

Compaq presario v2000 monitor is having horizontal purple lines that flicker.

Try reloading the drivers, delete the device in device manager and reboot. It should then pick up the drivers and reload them, if that does not work I would suspect the screen is on its way out (flickering normally means the screen or its connection is bad)

Screen on Toshiba M35x S149 Laptop blank/flickers

Ok, from the beginning. Can you do a cold boot and get into the bios? (is there an image on the screen then)
Secondly, can you connect to an external monitor and see an image?
Did it do this only when it was heading in to hibernation? If so, it sounds like the power management needs some adjustment.
If there's no image on the external monitor, you may have a video/motherboard problem, or it still could be the operating system/power management.
It all depends on if you have video in bios.
Let me know.
Good luck
