Hp laptop failing to start

I have an hp pavilion dv6000 laptop. when i attempt to turn it on, the LED lights will turn and the computer sounds as if it will start, but it immediately turns off. i've tried a different battery, unplugged the ac adapter etc., and it still won't work. the laptop is more than 2 years old, so it could just be the age, but i still want to make sure

this is actually the second time this has happened. the first time it happened (about a month ago) i was able to fix it by briefly using the battery from another laptop, but that failed to help the issue this time

any ideas on how to fix this?

You model's home support page at HP here.
There have been battery pack recalls for some HP notebooks. Please check the alert bulletin here to see if you are affected.
Try this procedure. Here is a list of battery related issues and solutions.
You could try a hard reset. Follow these instructions. Try again reconnecting only the ac adapter.
If you suspect that the battery is not at fault, or wish to troubleshoot the startup from another perspective, see this article.
Good luck.

From the version you told it seems you are not maintaining your laptop well. You shall always defragment your laptop every 3 months and charge your battery for minumum 12 hours without usage. Your RAM and HDD are suspected. Put a bootable CD in cd drive and clarify what to do further

Sounds like a bad Power MOSFET on the motherboard, to me.

Using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's; for an example,

In so stating, do you wish to attempt board level repair, or just replace the motherboard?

Hmmm, may have to retract that one. No Service Manuals available to the public.

Of course I am a tech with years of knowledge in repairing laptops.
If you can stand a 'windy' tech, and LOTS of reading, I can guide you in disassembling.

(I can guide you with board level component replacement too, but you're gonna' need to sharpen your soldering/de-soldering skills.

For example; the Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET, runs about $1.01 USD.

The Alpha & Omega Semiconductor LTD - AO4407 - Power MOSFET, runs about 78 cents USD.

USE an ESD wrist strap.
Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.

HP dv6000. Will not turn on. Clicks on for two or so seconds and turns off

Remove the battery and the power plug, now replug in the power plug alone and attempt to boot. If the laptop starts then the issue is the battery. If not the laptop has failed and you'll need to contact HP for service or a local service tech if it's outside of warranty. -Ravi Shanghavi, Ottawa
