Hi there,

First of all take the lower back cover off the set and you will see three glass lenses, spray glass cleaner directly to a very soft cloth and clean those dirty lenses then you might want to check the mirror for dirt but on some rare cases it gets dirty and I wouldn't mess with it. if further you have the same problem means your TV has a convergence board problem which is very common with these types of TV's even with the other brands. The fix for this is by replacing two identical IC's with part# that starts with STK. But before replacing these IC's technicians check small components called resistors and pico fuses. They also check for loose or cold solder connections.
Have it checked by a qualified repairman because there are parts inside your TV that are still holding dangerous amount of voltage even if it's unplugged from the wall outlet. It will cost around $250 to $300 to fix your TV.

Thanks

Try turning the contrast (picture) down and see if helps--if contrast is too high this will happen and be normal.

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The hitachi 46f510 has went out of foucs how to fix it loos as if u watch through wax paper

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

Most newer Digital TV's don't display Analog signal very well. Often worse then an Analog TV. This is normal to a degree. If your Wii has component  cables, try using that. As for cable, you might get a better signal with Digital Cable.

Old hitachi

the coolant most likely needs changing in the CRTs. Another possibilty is the mirror has become dull. use a damp soft cloth to clean the mirror then dry also clean the CRT lenses . Dont use windex. You will be amazed the difference just polishing the mirror can make in picture quality. Looking into the CRT lenses while they are on will tell you if any groth are present in the CRT coolant chambers.

Dark , blurry picture

MTNESTR, My guess would be the FBT loc.TH01(flyback transformer) Hitachi p/n#BW03004 which would be far less expensive than replacing the entire deflection board... A shop could ring test the FBT to confirm the failure. I do know the FBT in this unit has an internal resistor that is prone to failure. It is in-line with the focus block and if it's open it would explain the blur and lack of screen voltage to light the crts properly. The deflection board is about $290-$350 plus shipping and a FBT is somewhere between $60 - $90 depending on the supplier. Hope this helps! Bill
