Question about Poulan 12" Electric Twist N Edge Plus Trimmer, No Tools Needed

1 Answer

Just replaced the fuel line which goes from the primer bulb to what appears to be a fuel filter inside the tank. Now my Poulan TE450CXL will not start. At first it did start but would only run for about 5 seconds then die. Now it will not fire. Is there are certain way to replace the fuel line?

The tube is the exact sze and type which was previously installed. When I push the primer bulb I do get fuel although, sometimes I see air bubbles. The fuel tank is full with the requisite mix of fuel and two cycle oil. There are no cracks on the line or bulb either.

It appears my problem is air in the system. After conversing with another person I discovered the weighted air filter wasn't deep enough in the fuel tank. I installed a longer piece of fuel tubing to ensure the weighted air filter went to the bottom of the fuel tank. However, when I prime the priming bulb I see lots of air bubbles in the fuel line running to the priming bulb. Also, when I take the cap off the fuel tank and prime the priming button I see lots of air bubbles come to the surface of the fuel. Is this indicative of a need to change the fuel filter?

Actually, I went a step further. I removed the filter entirely thinking that maybe the filter was clogged but it didn't help. It seems for some reason, the fuel is being siphoned from the priming bubble rather than staying there to started the motor. I did get the motor to start once but it last about 5 seconds.

I'm going to pull the sparkplug out in the AM and see if it may be saturated with fuel or some sort of buildup

If it's like mine, the small line is supposed to go from the carb to the filter in the bottom of the tank. a slightly larger line runs from the primer bulb back to the tank. called a purge line?

Make sure you have the exact replacement tube. When you push the bulb, do you get fuel? If not, check the line you just replaced for cracks, check the bulb to see if it is that. But first, check to see if you have enough fuel in the tank. Good luck...Lee

Start to eliminate all of the things that could cause a stoppage. Start with the easy ones and work into it. It may be a problem that occured seperate from the fuel line. Spark plug, air filter. If you are able, get a small amount of fuel into the air intake and see if it fires. If it does then your problem would probably be the carb. Good luck...Lee

If you can find one at your local small engine shop, do it. It a filter and filters are there to filter gunk out of the fuel. Maybe yours has filled up...Lee

Poulan chain saw model #2025 - fuel lines dry rotted and disintegrated. There are 3 fuel lines: l from gas tank and 2 from primer button but only 2 fuel ports on the carb. What goes where and how?

You should have 2 to the tank, the one with filter coming from tank goes to nipple on right side of carb, the nipple on left side by primer bulb goes to primer bulb and other from primer bulb back to tank as return line, how it should work is when you push primer bulb it pulls fuel from tank through carb and back to tank on return line so watch in tank orleave one line out that you think is return line and see if gas comes out when you prime, but remember it goes through the carb first before it goes back to tank, had a pic but too big to put on site sorry, 2StrokeJim

The smaller line is connected to the fuel filter in the tank and goes on the carb body opposite the end with the hole in the cover. A larger diameter line coming out of the tank is the fuel return line and has the little connector on it just inside the tank to hold it in place there
It goes on the carb body (if primer is on carb) by the bulb.
If there is an external bulb...the small line is the same...there would be a larger line going from the carb body (nearest the end with a hole in the cover) to the smaller nipple on the primer bulb. A third larger diameter line would be connected to the larger nipple on the primer bulb and running to the little nylon connector inside the tank. This is the fuel return line and the smaller diameter line is of course the fuel supply line.

The large hole in the tank brings a line from the filter to the upper carburetor fitting. The lower carburetor fitting goes to the primer inlet (which is found by plug and try). The short line from the tank goes to the outlet of the primer. With fuel mix in the tank, try one of the ports in the primer with the line from the carburetor. If correct, the primer bulb will fill with fuel--otherwise, try the other primer port and see if fuel will come into the bulb. This may take over 6 pumps if the carburetor is empty of fuel. Did you check the fuel filter for plugging? If it was ok, and with new lines, fuel should pump into the primer provided the carburetor is not plugged itself. If the problem seems to center on the carburetor, be sure to check the diaphragm in the lower chamber for flexibility--no holes or cracks. Also, there is a very small filter screen in the mid-body section that may be plugged. Use spray carburetor cleaner to clean the carburetor inside and out. When you get fuel to come into the bulb, the short line from the tank goes to the empty port. Hope some of this helps!

Routings of fuel line to Poulan 14 inch chainsaw Model 2025

No drawings or pix, but will try for description--the line from the tank that has the fuel filter is the main fuel source which goes to the upper connection on the carburetor. The lower carburetor connection goes to the intake side of the primer bulb, and the outlet side of the primer goes back into the tank, which has no filter inside the tank. The main problem is determining the correct primer port to connect back to the carburetor. When everything is connected, try priming the carburetor. If fuel fills the bulb, you have everything connected correctly. If nothing happens, try switching the two primer port connections and try to pump fuel again. If still nothing, hook the main supply line from the carburetor over to one of the primer ports and try for fuel again--if still nothing, switch the main supply line to the other primer port and pump again. If still nothing, check for a plugged fuel filter in the tank. If the filter was plugged, then go through the previous procedure again. Make sure to replace the fuel lines with original rubber lines, not plastic. Hope this helps!

Fuel line from inside of tank from primer button

The one line coming from the tank will be the one with the filter in the tank... that goes to the primer bulb and then to the carb. There should be a return line to the tank and that provides the pressure for the system.
Be sure to get proper diameter replacement tubing. You want the fit into the tank to be snug so it doesn't leak.

Replaced gas tank and primer bulb on my Poulan Leafblower FL1500 and it appears I'm not getting gas into the carb. Any ideas as to what my be the cause?

I assume the new tank came with new fuel lines and filter in it.
First be sure you have all the lines hooked up correctly. There should be a main line from the tank ( has the fuel line on the end of it in the tank) to the fuel pump side of the carb. Then there should be a line leaving the metering side of the carb to the primer bulb then from the primer bulb returning to the tank. When you press the primer bulb you should see it **** the fuel into the carb then from the carb into the primer bulb then back into the tank.
If the fuel lines are all hooked up correctly then you should rebuild the carb.

Both lines came off of the posts on a te 450 trimmer. which line goes where?

I presume you mean fuel lines. The return (without fiilter) line goes nearest the primer bulb. The supply (which has the filter attached inside the tank) goes on the further nozzle from the primer bulb.

Fuel routing:
Tank to carb (filter on free end in tank, replace annually)
Carb to primer (primer sucks fuel through carb)
Primer to tank (primer returns excess fuel to tank) HTH

32 cc Craftsman (Poulan) gas line replacement

Yes, you are right. The larger line goes to the primer bulb and only goes into the tank about an inch. The coupling just keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. The smaller line goes to the carb. This line must rest comfortably on the bottom of the tank with the filter attached to the end.

the large hose from the tank goes to the suction side of the primer bulb. The large line from the out put side of the bulb goes to the bottom inlet of the carb.
the small line goes from the top outlet tube on the carb back into the tank near the primer bulb.
