Fan stopped working and light now only works on pull chain

My Hunter fan/light combo with remote has worked fine for years. Today the fan was on and for no reason the light just came on by itself and the fan turned off. Now the remote won't work the light or the fan. I can use the pull chain to turn the light on/off but the pull chain doesn't do anything for the fan. I changed batteries in the remote and it still won't control the light or the fan. Any ideas?
