Blowing fuse on kx-t123211d
This is a good news/bad news solution. You must have had a LOT of years of trouble free service from the system. The bad news is the switching power supply is dead. It needs to be repaired...or you have a chance to find a 2 amp 24 volt DC power supply and insert it into the remote battery molex connector on the bottom right of the cabinet and it may work.
For everybody's benefit, the 123211d was made in like 1985-1994, so the first number in the serial number is the year and the second letter is the month A-L of manufacture. It could wirk for years, then one day, after a power failure or just turning it off, it would die. It would always be someting in the power supply and not the regulator card below it. We would take an old Key System power supply like an Elgin EAK-1 unit, and feed the battery backup port and it would run for years.
Of course, the best thing to do wiould be replace the cabinet and keep yuur old phones. If your 1232 has 32 Panasonic system phones, and all 12 lines, you're not going to be very happy, but here's a summary of what's available.
If your phones are 70xx or newer sets, you can reuse them in the newer Panasonic systems of TA, TAW, TD, or even the TDA/TDE with limitations. If you happen to have some of the 1232xx or 616xx phones, there may be some issues moving to the newest (current) systems.
The TA/TD 1232 starts at 8x16 and uses expansion cards that are hard to find to expand. You can usually find good deals on those old systems and they work well. I'd avoid a 123211d for the reasons above.
The TA-824 is 8 lines and 24 extensions. It's a current system and the base cabinet is 3x8, They are fairly inexpensive, but the expansion cards (2x8/3x8/0x8) can cost as much as the base system.
The TAW-848 and TDA-50 can have 8 or 12 lines (12 in the 50) and about 20-24 of the existing phones.
Anyway, this is the (long) fast answer to your question. If you have 8 or less lines and 24 or less phones, you can find a reasonalbe replacement and gain Caller-ID by changing out cabinets. If your system is larger, you may be looking at an expensive replacement.
