Question about GE Washing Machines
To get the model n umber you need to look for the plate on the body of the unit. In some models it is located at the back. Check if the door switch is working properly (assuming your model has one). Inspect the actual switch if it there is some physical damage then test if it is actually working and if it is sending signal to the control unit using a tester. Inspect the washer while you have the panel removed. You may see loose linkages if that is the cause of the problem. Check if there is power to the motor. Using a tester you can measure voltages from the power to the control unit and to the motor to see where the voltage stops. There you should be able to identify should there be a bad electrical component. If all checks out OK you may have to remove the motor to have it tested without any load. It could be a weak motor or it may have gone bad. If the motor is OK then we are looking at an issue with the control unit or electrical components that needs further testing. Do not forget to check the wires for loose connection or bad wires that needs replacement.

Well it seems like problem is in the Clutch assembly - it may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it.
(the model number is provided in user manual or you can see it on washer backside)
