Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

Need help finding compatible RAM upgrade

I have a Gateway Quad-Core running Windows 7 Build 6100 64-bit. It came with 4GM of RAM, upgradable to 8GB.

Here's my problem.. I cannot find any RAM that will work with the oem RAM. Here's some info on the RAM that came with this pc:

Memory Timings: 6-6-6-18 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) at 1.8 volts
Manufacturer: Samsung
Part Number: M3 78T5663QZ3-CF7
Memory Type: DDR2 (PC2-6400)
Manufacturing Date: 2009, Week 2

Initially I had tried to get RAM from newegg.com, matching up the timings and memory type. One was completely incompatible. When I would turn my pc on it beeped and wouldn't boot. A second, different brand, would boot and load windows. However, when I ran memtest, it stated there were hardware problems. I took out that brand and ran memtest with oem RAM and no issues were found.

So I decided to try and find matching OEM RAM. I ran a google search and found some Samsung 2GB PC2 - 6400U - 666 M378T5663QZ3-CF7 RAM. Just arrived today so I installed it. When I turn on my pc it doesn't load windows, nor does it beep. My power indicator light is the type that does not indicate any type of computer activity...it always remains on and at a constant brightness. However, while on in this attempt, it dims and goes to full brightness and repeats this process.

Needless to say, I am at a full loss as to what type of RAM i can add to my box that will not only work, but will be fully compatible with my OEM RAM.

Download cpuz from www.google.com and then run this program to check the fsb of the ram. if it has ddr2 667fsb that means u will have to buy ram of any memory of the same frequency. just check the fsb and match the fsb with new one and install it. it will work certainly.... enjoy urself dont worry about the loss u are in a learning process. this way u will learn computer hardware.....

I upgrade RAM on laptop, now runs slower. Running 64-bit WIN 7 OS,

Check BIOS if all RAM is being picked and or set to max on RAM settings.

Upgrading BIOS! If it isn't broken don't fix it. Upgrading is a scapegoat fix, and many manufactures have a disclaimer. "You are on you own, and the likes for a reason. Most solutions are found elsewhere.

However, if you truly need to update read this to help you with the upgrade.

PS. Many applications are written for 32 bit, hence they are unable to fully utilize 64 bit and may be bound to 4GB.

How come my laptop runs slower after I upgraded RAM?

One trick I always use is going to start>run>type msconfig> startup menu. remove as much as possible here of items you don't need to run at startup. this will speed your machine up.

Wont to upgrade graphic card my p.c has 2gig max ram in it wonts should i upgrade to to preform its best cheers mike

Depends on what kind of hardware you have
-Memory- 2 gb ram is "ok" if you use windows XP but if you have Vista or Windows 7 you should have a minimum of 4gb ram.
-Processor- if you have a Dual core processor you are ok, if you have a p4 or p3 you dont want to waste money on a new graphics card because it will not help you get better games, your processor and memory will slow you down instead.
So my advice is, if you have a OK computer, go ahead with buying a new graphics card if you computer is old and slow, DONT buy a new card! put your money on +2gb ram instead (cheap, and gives you more benefits) or maybe buy an "upgrade package" with new motherboard-memory-processor.

I have a ACEer 5315 model no ICL50 running Windows Vista. To say Vista is **** is an understatement. I want to switch to Windows 7 but guess I will need a lot more RAM for this. Can I upgrade Ram on this...

Hi,
I recommend that you switch to Windows 7 without upgrading your RAM. Windows 7 is a lot faster, better and uses less RAM than Vista. Recommended RAM for running Windows 7 is 1GB but I have installed them on a Centrino 1.5GHz with 768Mb of RAM and they run perfectly.
So make the upgrade to Windows 7 anyway and if you feel that you need more power then you can get more RAM.
Also, download Windows 7 upgrade advisor to check if your pc is compatible. Download upgrade advisor here.
