How to use gestetner dsc224 as Mac OS X printer

I have a gestetner dsc224 which I want to use as a printer from my Mac running 10.5.8.

I've done the usual google searching and found software to download from http://support.ricoh.com/html_g/model/c24_32/310en.htm but it doesn't seem to help...

I've installed the Mac OS X v10.5 or later PPD Installer (Ver1.4.0) and Printer Utility for Mac (Ver.2.2b9.01d15) but I still have problems. IPP refuses to "unpause" the printer & does nothing. I've managed to get the printer to print when set up as LPD but it just prints pages such as:

%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF88
%APLProducer: (Version 10.5.8 (Build 9L30

etc....

followed by gobbledegook! I understand this is some Postscript issue.

When I add the printer should I choose LPD or IPP? (AppleTalk cannot find a "zone" so is greyed out - should I be using it, if so how?)

I have a modem/router, Power Mac & the printer all with fixed IP addresses on the network.

What a headache!

You need a PostScript (PS3) DIMM for the DSC224 so it will understand what the Mac is saying to it. Obviously the machine has network print option installed, otherwise there would be no response at all. The PS3 DIMM installs on the print controller board. If I remember correctly, (looking from the rear of machine), left side behind outer cabinetry......a bit deeper, then behind metal RFI shield,,,the proper slot is labeled on controller pcb....if not labeled, it will be the only slot open for this sized DIMM. I must admit, it has been 3 or 4 years since I've assembled one of these models. Hope this helps.
