Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera
Canon EOS350D is accessed through MY COMPUTER. First message on screen says 'Reading Picture Information' it will do this until the camera times out and switches it self off. Then message says 'Unable to detect camera, ensure camera is properly plugged in and switched on.' If 'Reading Picture Information' is interupted then a message will appear that says 'Scanner or Camera is in use. Please try again later'
'Properties' for Canon EOS350 Digital says. 'Properties for this decice cannot be accessed at this time'
Access through Canon Utilities through the programs menu displays a message that says 'Camera is already in use, start aborted'
Another type of Camera that was tried uses 'plug and play' downloads photos with no problems.
Trouble shooting guide suggested Driver Uninstall and subsequent Re-install. Computer displayed as uninstalling Canon EOS350D driver but when viewed it was still there. There is a small camera symbol shown at the bottom of the computer screen on the right when camera is connected and on. It says ' Camera Launcher' and hourglass icon is continuously next to cursor when camera is connected and switched on.
Fault has been progressive in nature in that 6 months ago it would be 1 in 2 attempts to download would be successful. Now none out of 100 attempts would be successful.
Help me please as I would really love to view my photos.
When downloading from my EOS 350D I get the message
'Camera launcher exe has stopped working'
I have Vista Home Edition
I am getting desperate to find a solution!!

I had the same problem. I am assuming that you have installed your software for the camera. Camera launcher exe is for windows XP. It is not compatible with vista. The solution is leave the software on your computer. Go to the canon website, support, software downloads. Select the eos350d, then select OS to vista and language to english and submit. You will get the option of 9 downloads. download files 3,5,6,7,8,9. They will self run and make the software vista compatible. The problem that I have now is that when I connect the camera windows tries to open it as a microsoft scanning document. However if you cancel that and open zoombrowser you can download the images from your camera using that. If I find a solution for the windows picture download then I will post it.

I have since discovered that the driver (supplied by Canon Australia on disc) is either completely wrong or so out of date that it would not download any updates. Downloaded a new driver for the EOS 350D from the Canon Australia website. And all is good.
I discovered this after I found the disc for a EOS 40D (after loading) automatically directed me to the website where as the EOS 350D disc did not.

I once had a similar problem but I don't see it any more after I formated my hard drive. If you can't format your system drive at this time, try the following procedure to download your pictures.
Launch the scanner and camera wizard by your self and it will detect the camera and your pictures will be downloaded.
Or install photo downloading softwares like Ulead Photo Explorer to download your pictures.
