Because Sony LCD rear-projection TVs tend to be larger than other televisions, they are more susceptible to overheating after long periods of use. This is especially true as your television ages. To prevent this, ensure that nothing covers the air vent on the back of the unit. Also, make sure there is no item that generates heat (e.g., a fireplace, afurnace) near the TV. If your TV begins to overheat, it will shutitself off randomly during use. If this happens, leave your TV off fora few hours before attempting to use it again.
if ur unit is not under any extended warranty we would advice you to check the power supply board in ur tv and check for any blown cap..... or some loose solder connections... please exercise utmost caution while ur checking the internal boards .... make sure u take all safety precautions as these tvs are known for their voltages..... using a ohm metre test for continuity in the board to locate the faulty component....
if you are not comfortable doing such a work... i would advice you to take a professional help....
regards iversh

Sony lcd projection tv repeatedly turning on & off

There are 2 primary things that can cause this problem - a bad TEMP sensor that is sensing too much heat, OR, a lamp that is going bad, which sometimes causes excessive heat before it dies. Either way, the set will shut itself off, and you can turn it back on in about 5 min or so, and it will work OK....for another period of time before it shuts off again.

You need a good TV Tech with the Sony Service Codes for your set, to come out & check your set. The Service Codes will tell him the exact problem you are having, and how many hours your set has been running. Most of the time a new bulb solves this problem, (if youe set is at least 3 years old).

TV takes 5 minutes to come on.

"The bulb"?? Yes I guess it could be the bulb. Or a million other things. Probably some small part on a circuit board. Call a repair shop... TVs are dangerous to work on so don't try it.
