My macbook was just reimaged and when I put photos

My macbook was just reimaged and when I put my photos back on, iphoto took over or merged with my desktop, so now iphoto starts everytime I click on desktop (but with no photos) -- have you ever heard of a problem like this? I cant put any icons on what appears to be the desktop. and furthermore there's an item called desktop, but with the iphoto icon, in the trash. This is bizarre! Any insights?

SOURCE: iPhoto opens up when initializing instead of iTunes

I have the same problem running os 10.4.9 and iTunes 7.3 and have yet to figure thos one out. Try turning off auto detection in iphoto. Chances are that iphone not only looks like an ipod to the computer but also a digital camera. I actually use thos feature to organise my photos so o havent tried it yet.

SOURCE: hard disk icon disappeared from desktop

To add the hard disk icon back onto your desktop, first click the "Finder" button in the dock. It is the dark and light smily face icon at the end of the dock.

Next, click the "Finder" menu item at the top of the screen and then "Preferences". In the "Finder Preferences" window that opens, click the "General" button. From there you can select what system items appear on your desktop. You can click "Hard disks" to re-add the hard disk icon.

Try this. Click on the desktop Then from the "Finder" menu choose "Preferences". In the "General" tab, make sure all the boxes are ticked - especially the one for "hard disks".

SOURCE: Trying to scan a photo from my HP Photosmart 2575 to my Macbook

Hi,
You can't scan directly into iPhoto however the software that came with your HP scanner should have something that can. If you don't have the software you will need to download it from the much easier to navigate HP.com site. Once you have scanned them using HPScan you can transfer them into iPhoto by drag and drop from app to app or Finder to iPhoto.

SOURCE: can not open desktop icons.

Go into your Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. Select your Macintosh HD in the pane on the left, then select "Repair Disk Permissions". Once the process has completed, try rebooting and see if it resolves your issue.

Does my Maxtor back up my iphotos?

Run a time machine backup. Then the easiest way would be to find a photo that you are willing to delete in iPhoto.

Jot down the name of the photo file, delete it. Then empty the trash.

Then go into time machine, try to search for that file, when you locate it, restore it. If you can then there is probably a good chance that you time machine backup is good.

To be on the safe side why not create a manual backup.

You'll find the iPhoto Library at:

/Users/username/Pictures

"username" will be your name that appears when you login to the computer.

  1. To get there, double-click the icon for your hard drive to open it, then double-click the Users folder. Double-click your Home folder, which is identified by a house icon and your username, and then double-click the Pictures folder to open it.
        1. Inside the Pictures folder you'll see a file called iPhoto Library. Copy the iPhoto Library file to a location other than your hard drive, such as your Maxtor external hard drive.

Sounds like you iphoto library is either corrupted or is not well, what I would suggest that you download iphoto library manager from http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ there is a free download which may be able to resurrect your library the cost of the full package is $19.95 and it is well worth buying particularly if you have a large iphoto library. Hope this helps.

My iphoto on my macbook pro will not open.

I think you might need to reinstall iPhoto (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1561?viewlocale=en_US).  You should back up your computer, including any photos, before doing this.
