I've been told it is an issue of software corruption but I urgently need to read these text messages and since the problem began (maybe 2days ago) I've been intermittently able to access my inbox. There is always one 'new' message with the sender name in cracked letters until opened, which reveals an old sms. One time it was a year old sms. However in the past 24hrs I have been completely unable to get in.
Even if it is only a temporary fix, I would like to just be able to see the messages I have now before I try and get the issue sorted from an official Motorola service place. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
This is a common issue with SE phones, that there Firmware get corrupted, you can reprogram your firmware yourself but you need the USB Data Cable of your phone. If you have it download the Update Utility from here, install it and run the application. The wizard will guide you accordingly on how and when to connect the phone.
If you are still having issues/questions, do ask me.
First open your phone. Press upper right (-) key to get menu. Press joystick up 1 time to get Messaging. Press joystick center select button 1 time, then down 1 time for "Inbox" (or down 3 times for email). Press center select 1 time, joystick down 1time for Inbox, center select for first message. Press upper right (-) key for "More", then joystick down 2 times to get "Forward", press center select. Press upper left (-) key to "Continue", press joystick up 1 time to get "enter email addr." Press joystick center select button, and enter the email address you want to forward the message to. After you have typed in the email address, press upper left (-) key "OK" 2 times to "Send", if you normally enter a password, type it now, press upper left (-) key for "OK" and your message will be sent. Hope this helps. -Mike
I think the best thing to do' is master clear and master resset the phone' but all your massage and file, such as phonebook entries, datebook, media and all the files you have save in your phone will be deleted...
Problem is a known issue with V3xx. If Inbox/outbox combined are above 300 messages, text messages are sent as picture messages. Use the auto-cleanup if you'd like, or manually delete texts, but I've had this issue with my V3xx since I first got it, and was told this same answer by AT&T tech support.
I would definitely reset the phone, unless you can find a way to clear the text messages out before it crashes to the Main Menu. My guess is that you have a corrupted text message in your inbox, and it is crashing the software.
Resetting the phone will wipe out all of the data on it, so make sure you back it up first. If you have the Motorola Phone Tools, you may also want to try accessing the text messages or updating the phone software through it first.
