Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

D40X LCD: Initial display time?

After taking a shot with my new d40x, the image appears on the LCD, but only for a fraction of a second before the LCD goes black. Is there a way to lengthen the initial time that the image appears on the LCD after a shot?

Re: D40X LCD: Initial display time?

In your custom settings no 15 Auto Timers you can set the time.

Picture does not appear on the monitor, I must look through the view finder to see what I,m pointing at to photograph

The D40x operates as SLRs have operated for half a century, offering you an optical viewfinder with which to frame and compose your picture. The LCD is for menus, shooting information, and reviewing.

Nikon introduced the live view feature, which allows you to hold your camera so it wobbles at arms' length, with the D3 and D300, released half a year after the D40x.

While almost all current DSLRs have this capability, it was not so common five years ago when the D40x was introduced.

Cannot take pictures thru lcd screen on d40x DSLR

The D40x is not capable of Liveview - i.e. looking at the LCD to take a picture. You are mistaken.
If you want Liveview, you need to buy the D3 or D300 cameras. The D40x is an entry-level camera.

D4ox lcd not showing 'live view'

Are you certain you used to have Live View on the D40x? Then something was wrong, as Nikon never put it in.

The D40x does not have Live View.

Nikon d40x...many thanks..micky

Unfortunately, there is no live view on the D40X when framing shots. You can only use the screen to review your shots and to make settings.

Is it possible to use the lcd in stead of the viewfinder

No, since the camera is a DSLR, there is no way for the CCD sensor to have an image until you take a picture. The shutter covers the sensor until you actually take the shot.

LCD show purple or violet cast on white areas when using auto mode

Have you tried viewing the photos on a computer or printing them? There should also be parts of the menu/setting displays that would be white. The text on the image info should be in white.
If you are getting white, it would suggest your whitebalance isn't set correctly. If everything has a purple tint to it, check your LCD display settings, otherwise it may be the screen is failing.
