Question about Toshiba 42H81 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

My Toshiba 42H81 is having issues with all video inputs except the S-Video. When you first power up the TV from cold start, the picture coming in from the S-video is terribly distorted and only gets clear after the unit warms up (~5 min). None of the other video inputs are working at all now (just noise). I've tried standard and composite inputs from multiple sources (swapping each out with different cables too) and I can't get any to work now. Am I looking at big $$ ? Thanks!

    Thanks mbelectronic...

There is another post with basically the same issuehttp://www.fixya.com/support/t251669-vid...

They were told "Needs Hyper board repair = replace bad caps PCB not available to buy outright." Does it matter to your solution that the problem is with the Video 3 inputs on the front of the TV also? I figure they feed back to the board in back, but want to ask first. I'm just worried about ordering trying to order a video jack board, and finding it's a problem with caps or some amplifier somewhere else. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Could it be the Hyperboard Module? I've found a lot of reporting of this being a common issue for these TV's? If so, is it easy to replace?

before I purchase the part, would it be helpful to post a video clip of exactly what is happening when the tv is powered up? I'd hate to spend $250 on a new board and find out it was some other component. Any further help would be greatly appreciated!!

Tv/video switch won't switch

The model indicated is a older Toshiba rear projection(if another brand/model let me know)

You should be able to select the rear inputs either via the remote (original one) or with the input (video) button on the set.

If in the menu they are grayed out--it means they have been locked out.

Failing that a serious problem exists in the set's microprocessor.

Hint: if you have not tried it UNPLUG THE SET FOR A WHILE TO SEE IF WHEN YOU PLUG IT BACK IT WILL RESET and restore the inputs.

Toshiba 40XV645U - No picture on HDMI 1 when TV is turned on

I assume that you have set the input source selction as in Page 32 and HDMI 1 is solid and and not grayed out. If so check the Preferences menu and see if there is an option for power on set up.
Also look at page 51 about HDMI feature settings. I assume you turn the cable box on first before turning the TV on.

Toshiba 43AX60: sound but no picture

try switching to a different video source and play a DVD or a game system. If the issue is still there try unplugging the TV for 5 min. and then plug it back in.If the problem works fine on all other devices except the video source that has the issue try hooking up the same device your having the issue with to a video source you know works if that works then you have a bad video source on the back of the TV, if it does not work it's either the cable going to the TV or the device itself.

Other inputs not working on rear projection toshiba

check for progressive scan and interlaced setting also verify if you have component hook up that it auto maticall chooses your resolution because if your tv is waiting for 1080i and you send 1080p it will not always work and if it expects 1080i and you send it 480i(s-video or rca connection) it may not automatically flip

Toshiba 42H81 Hyperboard

Tom,
I'll send the svc manual directly following this post, but as a word of caution be EXTREMELY careful removing the smd caps. You can easily damage the traces and make the module useless.
