How do I disassemble my Maytag dryer

Depends on the model, most of them you take a putty knife and disengage the clips to lift the top located between the top and front panel, then you can remove the screw on each side and lift the front off, If it is old you then have to remove the drum support frame and the remove the belt from the motor and idler pulley and then lift the drum out. You did not leave a model so this is kind of in general. Good luck and always unplug before servicing.

Not too bad. Unplug. Remove three screws along back, at top edge. Stand in front of dryer and, using the palms of your hands, push back sharply on the top (L & R sides) to slide it back about 2 inches, then lift top off. Remove 2 phillips head screws at 5 and 7 O'clock position behind door. Remove screws holding top control from top corners. Pull top of control panel loose from retaining clips along top. (watch for sharp edges) Set control panel on top of dryer. Remove 4 screws now accessable at top of front panel. Un-plug light, door switch, lift front panel off, and unplug sensor at bottom. Set front panel aside. Remove 4 screws at front of side panel holding front bulkhead (with drum rollers attached), lift up bulkhead and remove. Reach under drum to unhook belt. Remove drum. The hardest part is pobably hooking the belt back on with the tension pulley while reassembling. On a scale of 1 - 10, it rates about a 5.5. First one might take an hour and a half. If you've done a few, you can knock 'em out in about 20 minutes.

Access the drum to replace felt

To access the drum two screws need to be removed from the inside of the door. The screws are on top of the opening and hold the top of the dryer closed. Then you simply lift the top and slide it to the left to remove it, thus revealing full access to the top of the drum. Then two screws (left and right) need to be removed in order to remove the entire front of the dryer. Once the front is removed the drum can also be removed but for the purpose of replacing the felt removal of the drum is not neccessary. It should be noted that the felt sits only around the bottom of the drum and covers just over half of the circumferance of the drum. The felt should be position in around the opening of the inside part of the door. When replacing the front cover the drum will fit snuggly up against the felt. Replace screws, top and door screws and walla...fixed!

Drier Belt Replacement on GE model DDG7580

Open the door and remove four screws which go into the dryer top. Swing top back. Take out the screw on each side holding the dryer front to the side panels near the open top. Tilt the dryer front forward and lift it off the bottom pegs, then swing it to the side. Leave door switch wires connected. Lift up slightly on drum to allow the belt to be placed around drum. (grooves of WE12X82 belt touch the drum) Belt goes down from the left side of the dryer directly to the grooved motor pulley, then around the belt tensioning pulley and back to the drum. Your model has a removable panel at the bottom side of the back which will allow easy access to the motor pulley area.

LEAKS AND SQUEAKS

If you suspect the leak is from the main drum seal.
To remove the agitator, remove the softener cap by pulling, look inside the agitator, undo the bolt (4) with long socket extension and then lift out.
5e90500.jpg Not sure if you can see the seal ("O" ring at this point, you may need to remove the inner drum.
Isolate the supply.
Lift the top cover by inserting a flat blade approx 4" in at each side at the front to release the two top clips, top cover will lift and hinge backwards out of the way.
To remove the top ring (13) from the drum, unclip each clip around the top untill released, then remove.
to remove the inner drum (10) , unbolt (7) from the inside, lift out inner drum.

Seal (1) should be visible.

How to replace drum belt.

Opening the cabinet and removing the drum of GE dryer models
Note:
Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you begin to remove the drum. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Pull your dryer out from the wall. Behind it, on the bottom, you will find a lower panel that will give you access to the unit's belt tensioner (also known as an idler pulley arm). Remove the screws holding this panel in place, and then remove the panel itself. Reach inside and release the belt tension by removing the belt from the motor pinion.

Older GE dryer models have a small drum bearing inspection plate in the center of the back of the dryer. This drum bearing inspection plate provides access to the dryer's circlip (also known as an e-ring). This clip holds the rear drum shaft in place. Newer models do not have this circlip or the drum bearing inspection plate.

If yours is an older GE model with an inspection plate, remove the plate now. It will be held in place with a single screw. With the plate removed, you will be able to see the drum support shaft and the e-ring (circlip) holding the shaft in place. Use a small screwdriver to remove the e-ring. You may also want to use a magnet to keep the circlip from falling into the dryer. You will also find several metal and nylon shims between the bearing and the e-ring, inside the bearing, and between the bearing and the drum. Take careful note of how they come off so that you will be able to put them back on again in the right order.

Now remove the front panel of the dryer. There are a couple of different ways this is accomplished. Whichever method you use is dependent upon your model. Some older models have two spring catch clips under the cabinet top, one on the left side, and one on the right side of the front. Use a putty knife, or some other flat and thin object to wedge in under the cabinet top. Release both spring catches and lift the cabinet top off the dryer. In some newer models, there will be screws joining the cabinet front panel to the cabinet top. You will have to open the door in order to find these screws. Once they are found, remove them and then slide the cabinet top forward and lift it off the unit.

Next, there are two screws located in the bottom of the front panel, one in each corner. Loosen these, but do not remove them just yet. Locate and remove the two screws at the top inside of the dryer's front panel. Again, there is one screw in each corner. Proceed to remove the other two screws you have just loosened. Disconnect the door switch wires and then lift the front panel off your dryer. With the front panel removed, lift the drum and slide it out of the dryer.

NOTE: In some models, you will have to remove the dryer drum glides before you can remove the drum. Also, now that the interior of your dryer is completely exposed, it might be a good time to vacuum out all of the dust and lint that has built up in there.
