Yes, the HD might make that sound and, if it did, it's dead. When that happens the computer will usually power on but it won't boot because it can't; if the disk is dead there's no way for the computer to load the operating system. If you have a bootable CD (the recovery disks that come with most desktops are bootable) then you could try putting that in to the CD drive and booting the computer. If the computer boots up with a CD but not with the HD, then you have a dead HD.
if you have power it's not the power supply. It sound like the screen maybe gone on your laptop. Have tried hooking up a monitor to your laptop to see if the screen will come up?
Your problem is the memory . YOu have to put off the pc and remove the memory card in the slot. Then clean the silver pins in your memory with a rubber eraser. Put it back and see if the BIOS will be prompted on the screen , if not you have to replace the memory.
when you turn on the system hit the F8 button several times and boot in safe mode and uninstall the wireless card or run system restore and take back your system to an back date
my daughter has a acer aspire 5640 it will not do anything! When the pc is turned on, the screen goes black and says disk read error. Can anyone help! Would like to restore to factory settings.
Why not use your new hard drive as a storage disc. Reconnect your old hard drive as it was before. Hopefully it will boot the computer again. If it does, shut down the unit. On the primary bus, set your old HD as master & the new HD as slave with jumpers. Boot the unit & hopefully you will now have a "c"&"d" HD showing in My Computer. Remember that your are dealing with Windows & what should happen & what really happens can be two entirely different things.
If you dont see any green lights and you dont hear any boot up sounds ( hd, fans, etc) try to take out battery and just plug in the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Make sure your power plug is good too. If you hear boot-up sounds, see green lights but no display then toggle on the "fn" key and or try on an external monitor.
At a glance it looks like a system problem, but hardware cause cannot be completely excluded.
To know it you will need to install windows fom xp disk, as your recovery disk may be cause for the problem. You can try downloading windows setup from torrent, only for testing purposes.Just be aware that some version may have viruses, then have a good antivirus active and always scan what you download before using it.
To use torrent easily you may need to download two programs:
install both of them then put first 'windows xp' in the search software. If you find and download setup disk for the same system indicated in the licence sticker at the back of your computer (eg. windows xp home, windows media edition, windows vista home etc...) then you may be able to install the system with a valid licence, in this case I suggest to finish finding and installing the drivers and keeping the installed system.
