Motor was running low on oil. Added oil and now it runs but has a poping noise when running.

Check engine oil level with dipstick. If low, don't run engine until you have checked for leaks and added oil.

If it was running while the oil was low the damage may already be done I'm afraid. The oil acts not only as a lubricant but also as a coolant and running a motor with not enough oil almost always leads to a catastrophic failure with internal components.

with that low mileage will assume its a newer model and not a classic
what year is it

ticking noise with low oil most likely the hydraulic tappets
they can be replaced

only older models are old school manual adjusted tappets

any other problems with the caddy
is it being serviced regularly ?
need to check for engine oil leaks or why the oil was low
maybe a oil pump or oil filter check

find another mechanic and get his diagnosis
a cylinder compression test and engine oil pressure test
is done before any engine rebuild would be considered

unless run without engine oil or totally over heated
52 000 miles on any cady motor it is no where near and engine rebuild



the tappets

have an electrician /technician check the start/run capacitor for failure
check/ replace the oil filter as it may be blocked and overloading the motor

the low/no oil has caused bearing failure
repairs will reveal that you need new bearings,
rod and possible new crankshaft if the damage is severe
it comes as a cost for not doing the simple practice of not checking oil and water levels at least weekly

does it have an electric fan added to the cooling system and if so is it working

sounds to me like you could have damaged the oil pump, running low on oil can cause numerous things to fail.. possibly spun the rod bearings and they are beating on the crank. I wouldn't start it, but if the noise is in the bottom I would drop the oil pan.

i think you caught it just in time the ticking noise was the hydraulic tappets by the description and if it is now running ok then leave well alone and check the oil every week as well as all the other levels .

It usually holds 0.8 lit and owners just put a liter on it!
Did u drain ur oil when u have cold engine?
U should heat up ur engine first before draining it!

Was the oil low before you added any? What computer check? You went to a shop to have it scanned? Have the code issues repaired first then move on to the noise issues. Not a very new car I hope your not the original owner because you should not have these problems if you maintained it over the years and don't have 250,000 miles on it. If that's the case get rid of it
