Question about PNY Optima 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SoDIMM Notebook Memory

1 Answer

Poor Warranty I just had an 8800 GTX OC PNY card fail under the 3 year warranty. They sent me a refurbished GTX 260. No Box, no paperwork, only the card in a bubble wrap. I emailed them about this and they jumped all over me ans slapped there fine print on me that they were no way under obligation to provide a new card. I dont even know if I can register it. I dont think I can because they say my warranty continues from the first failed card. Well - the refurbished card is bad after just a couple of days. It artifacts - and the clock speeds of the card show much slower than they should be - and cannot be changed without failure. Example... core clock should be 576 - it runs @ 341. Memory is less than half it rated speed and so on. Dont trust these people, dont know what they are going to do about this one yet.

Sorry about the previous post. I hit the wrong button. As I was saying, I always recommend EVGA for their great support and lifetime warranty on all of their cards. They also offer a "Step up" program where within 90 days, you can trade in your card for a newer one and they will pay you what you paid for your previous card. As for the new 260 gtx, I would try booting the machine in safe mode by hitting f6 when you first turn on the PC. While in safe mode, go into the control panel and remove all of your previous nvidia drivers. From there, go to the control panel again and click system > and then to the device manager tab. Find your video card/display adapter on that list and uninstall that as well. From here, reboot your machine and re-install the latest drivers. See if that helps any.

Bfg 8600 GTS OC

While BFG used to have a good warranty, they went out of business in late 2010, which makes a replacement under warranty very unlikely.
If you have another PC you can install and test it in, I would try that. But it does rather sound like a graphics card problem to me. Which means a replacement will most likely be needed.
Luckily, you can get a very decent, if not better, card to replace it for less than $100. I would recommend anything in the Fermi graphics card, either 400 GTS or higher, which I have (with or without rebates) in the $100 range. PNY, Gigabyte, or XFX are all brands I have used, they have at least 3 years warranty on them.

This motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card.

You could use:
Geforce 6 series (6800GT)

Geforce 7 series (GeForce 7950, GeForce 7900, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600 ,
GeForce 7300, GeForce 7200 and GeForce 7100)

Geforce 8 series (GeForce 8800 Ultra, GeForce 8800 GTX, GeForce 8800 GTS, GeForce 8800 GTS 512, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT and GeForce 8500 GT)

Geforce 9 series (GeForce 9800 GX2, GeForce 9800 GTX+, GeForce 9800 GTX, GeForce 9600 GT, GeForce 9600 GSO 512, GeForce 9600 GSO and GeForce 9400 GT

Geforce 200 series (GeForce GTX 295, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce GTX 280, GeForce GTX 275, GeForce GTX 260, GeForce GTS 250 GeForce GTS 240 and GeForce GT 220

Geforce 400 series (GeForce GTX 480, GeForce GTX 470, GeForce GTX 465, GeForce GTX 460, Geforce GTX 450)

With your system however I would recommend nothing greater than a Geforce GTS 250.

Please rate me high.
Thanks.

PNY Does not Honor ''Lifetime Warranty'' for memory

SAME HERE
Ram installed about 2 years ago I think 2x4gb ddr3 sodimms
Failing after a year started as blue screens and not recognized short time after.
Without receipt = no warranty
Got it as a gift = no warranty
Oem = no warranty
Purchase with gift card and misplace receipt = no warranty
House burn down with all paperwork = no warranty
Not good at keeping records =- no warranty
I have been in contact with PNY and can you tell they have told me without the receipt they can do nothing for me?
COMPLETE WAISTE of the word warranty.
and yes there support people get smart with you and quote other companies warranties and state see they do they same thing!
WAY TO STAND OUT!
Why even have a lifetime warranty, just call it a "prove it" warranty?
