Question about Optimus Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have an Optimus Model CD-3330 Portable CD Player with AM-FM Stereo Cassette which has worked just fine for the few years I have had it ... however, all of a sudden I cannot play any CD on it ! I insert the CD disc as always (yes, I have tried a number of CDs with the same results) and nothing happens ... I do notice that in the display window, I do see the letters "Er" when I try to get a disc to play ...Everthing else with the unit works fine, cassette player and recorder, am-fm radio ... everything but a CD will not play ... Is this something that can be fixed, is it worth fixing and where can I get it repaired ??? This is the first time I am trying this FixYa service and I really hope you can help ... the 3330 has been a fine unit ...

Thanx for your reply to my problem ... can the laser lens be cleaned by simply removing the CD and then using the q-tip in alcohol you described ? If that is the laser lens, then I did do as suggested and the letters Er did disappear from the display and a 0 and 1 showed up but no sound ... I could not hear the sound of the disc spinning when I turned it on or off ... Any further suggestions ? I do have a copy of the Owners Manual and I had written the purchase date on it ... 11-15-99 ... nearly 10 years ! Should I be able to hear the disc spinning when I press the "on" switch ? Anyuthing else ...

It is after 5 pm here in SC and I still have no reply to my additional query about my CD Player which still does not play, even after I cleaned the laser as directed ... however, a number does appear briefly in the display but the CD still does not play nor do I hear any sound whatever of the CD spinning in the unit ... any further suggestions .... also, for some reason the answer to my original question went to my Spam folder ... can you send your reply directly to my InBox...

Helpful suggestions but I think it is an age problem and I will replace unit as final option... appreciate prompt reply and obvious knowledge of this unit ...

This is most likely a dirty laser lens on the CD drive. You can try a CD lens cleaner, but they don't work all the time.

To do a better cleaning job, open up the unit yourself so that you can get to the laser lens, use a qtip and dip it in alcohol 70% and wipe the lens clean.

Here is a example video on how to clean a laser lens, you clean all the laser lenses this way:

After cleaning the lens, it should work normally. if it does not, attempt to clean it atleast 2 more times.

If the problem still remains, the laser or the optics are failing, you might be able to fix the issue by replaceing the laser assembly on the cd drive. But It may be cheaper to replace the unit instead of replacing hard to find parts.

Did you watch the video I sent you? About the message going to spam, that is a problem at your end, we have no control over that.

Did you take apart the cd drive and directly clean the laser lens inside the drive with the Q-tip?

back right corner once you pop the top. there should be a little plastic hanger there, if there is not, it may have broken off. the spring attaches there and then there should be a small opening that it feeds down into and attaches to another hanger
