- I am glad you found it figured you checked the fuel filter, I guess I will have to include that in any more answers like that. I change the filter and air cleaner every year and add Lucas gas treatment to the gas to keep the gumming from happening. The lucas fuel stabilizer helps keep the primer bulb good and keeps the filter from jelling up. With alcohol and MTBE's that's added to gasoline it destroys the filters and turns them into jelly, and it's the same with cars as well.
