Go to the management page for your 2wire router (usually 192.168.1.254) using your browser of choice. There you can find the SSID (Name of the Network) as well as the type of encryption(if present) and the key (password). You can then use this info to join the network.

If your running XP you can go to network connections from the control panel. Then r-click on the Wireless Connection and choose view wireless network. Then find yours and click connect.

I recently reactivated my internet service with At&t. I already had a modem, however they sent me a kit that included the 2Wire Wireless/Gateway. I will be using a laptop also, will the 2wire replace...

think the new ones are capable of being wireless. if your laptop has wifi it will work. if not. should also have a lan connector to be wired.
or if CLEAR.com is available in your area you can have multiple connections with them. we can setup your account if your address is verified by there.system. and we give you $45 back on new activations. just ask me how.

The parental controls are software pushes that the internet provider gives you. You have to call them to see if they are available or not.

I cant set up internet for my laptop and 2WIRE

It sound like your wireless settings on the laptop are incorrect...pay close attention to your encryption settings as they are often the cause. In fact, I would suggest disabling encryption on the wireless router as a test and seeing if the laptop will connect correctly. If it does you know the problem is in your security settings.

Wireless connection to the 2 Wire modem

Hi

Most of the 2wire gateways have the WEP key or the encryption code on the bottom of it. It would a 10 digit Number of a Five Character one within square brackets.
Other wise you can go to the gateway page by accessing http://192.168.1.1 on another system which is already going online using the gateway or wired to it and in the gateway page under wireless you would find the WEP key incase the default key on the bottom of the 2wire does not work.

Do reply incase this has resolved your issue or you need more help.

Thank you

2wire 1701 HG Gateway wireless not working

Hi,

There could be a lot of possibilities why you lost your connections at the same time. Could be windows update or changes had been made in your 2wire 2701 HG.Its impossible to say that your wireless adapters turned bad all at the same time.As what you observed , wireless light is off meaning your 2wire doesnt detect any wireless connection. You can try reconnecting them 1 at a time by going to your wireless connection tool or network connections.

If that didnt help, you can use your PC w/c is connected using the USB connection. Using this step, you 'l have a chance to edit and view your wireless network. For you to access your 2wire you must know what your 2wire address {default gateway}. Using your hardwired pc go to start > run > type in cmd then hit enter > on the Dos command screen type in ipconfig and hit enter> youl see your default gateway . It would look like this 192.168.1.254 for example cos sometimes it would vary depending what ISP you have, Open your fav browser and on your address bar type in your default gateway. That would lead you to your 2wire page, there youl have a chnace to view you home network. Check if your wireless encryption and you network name if everything is still the same. {Best thing is to change your wireless name or SSID. Then try to reconnect on your wireless connection for each computer and make sure you have your wireless encryption.

Hope that helps. Pls let me know asap if you need clarifications.

Cheers.

2wire HomePortal replacement necessary?

how bout customizing the wireless settings of your 2wire first for a more stable connection. like change the wireless name from it's default and enable a wireless security. you can also change the wireless channel to minimize interference from other wireless device near your area.
if you have done that already, try to upgrade the firmware of your router to check that it's not a firmware issue.
if you have done everything to solve your concern, it's better to get a replacement.
i believe your home portal is a gateway. if so, you also need to have a gateway to replace it and a router is not sufficient.
as long as your laptop has a wireless card installed, you don't need any other equipment
hope this'll help you.

Connecting 2wire router with desktop pc and laptop

hi! try to check the settings on your 2wire modem, you can do this by going to gateway.2wire.net, run the system setup wizard, when you get to the ppp authentication page, check the username & password on it, it should be the one that you setup for your ISP account. as for the wireless on the desktop, it depends on the brand of the wireless adapter, be sure you have installed the drivers for this adapter. you may need to go to the client utility manager or the wireless adapter shortcut/icon on your computer screen then configure it to "see" the 2wire network. make sure wireless encryption is turned on in the 2wire modem's MDC, you can do this by going to homeportal/management, or go to gateway.2wire.net/mdc.
