Please see if the ink cartridges have a cover of some sort over the ink outlet. Like a piece of tape or something and remove it.

My Epson R320 prints blue lines across and over all my printing including DVD printing is the anyone out there that can help it loohs just like a writing pad that contains lines peter

Epson told me it needed to be serviced but I did not accept that. It was hardly used. But everything I tried failed at first. Cleaning the print head barely showed any inprovement. Finally I just removed all the ink cartridges, then just put them back in. Something reset is my guess. Cleaned again and now it is printing without any lines. As good as new so far...

5740 acts like it's printing, but no ink on paper

Since it's trying to print, the printer probably just needs cartridges. The ink can dry in the nozzles with age and disuse and clog them.

Before you splurge on new cartridges, try getting them going. (This assumes there is some ink left in them.) Take the cartridges out of the printer, wet a layer of paper towels about 1/8 inch thick, and whack the nozzles against the wet surface a few times. Check every few whacks to see if you're getting any ink flow. Repeat until you see some ink on the towels and on the nozzles, or until you decide it's futile. Often this dislodges the clogged ink and opens the nozzles, and buys some extra printing time. But you're probably going to want new ones soon anyway.

Printing Streaky

Most likely the printer has been sitting for along time not used or you have used cheap replacement ink. Epsons are notorious for clogging the jets with cheap ink. unfortunately replacing the ink cartridges will not help because the jets are seperate from them. If cleaning numerous times does not work your next best bet is to buy a cleaning ink cartridge for your model. otherwise youll need a new printhead or new printer. If your going to use cheap replacement cartridges stay away from epson.

Printer acts like it is printing, but noting on paper

Silly question: Did you remove the protective tape from the new ink cartridges? Our shop used to frequently get printers in for "repair" where people forgot that step. Also, did you use after-market replacements or original cartridges? I've had problems with HPs and those generics. Sometimes it's worth the extra for OEM cartridges. Just because the printer has new ink, don't overlook the cartridge as problem.

Epson Stylus r320 photo

Hello Ed,

I believe I can help. I happen to have the same printer. My printer was unused for about a month and I could not get the black to print. What happens with these ink jet printers is that the ink drys out and becomes clogged in the print head and other jets. The spray orifices are extremely tiny.

I have a unique method of handling these problems that "usually" works. Here's what you can try.....

1), Get a paper towel

2). Set the ink cartridge to the setting where you remove the ink cartridges and can slide the print assembly back and forth.

3). remove ALL the ink cartridges

4). Fold the paper towel into a rectangle that is 1 inch wide and about 4 inches long) it should be like a fat pillow.

5). saturate the paper towel with clean water.

6). Position the saturated paper towel underneath the print head so that it is pressing against the bottom side of the print head where the ink would spray out on the paper. (It is crucial to get the damp paper towel into contact with the print jet's lower discharge surface. Make especially sure you get it under the clogged (non functioning color position).

7). allow this to set overnight.

8). The next day, remove the paper towel. Whatever color was giving you trouble printing, you should see that color ink in the paper towel. This is because the dampness has loosened the dried up ink. You may also see other colors too.

9). Re-install your ink cartridges and try it again (you may have to do 1 clean cycle but often it isn't even necessary.

This has worked like a charm for me over and over again. No guarantee it will solve your particular problem but it's easy and worth a shot and has returned my R320 to perfect service after sitting for long periods. (You can also leave a moist paper towel under the heads when not in use to prevent clogging). But IMPORTANT...if you don't remove the ink cartridges, the paper towel may pull all the ink out..

Try the following the intensive cleaning info in this rescue kit to regain print quality. There is also a known issue with some CX machines where a pipe gets blocked and the ink in the head can't flow. This is covered in this other rescue kit info.
