Whirlpool top loader: very loud pumping sounds when filling

I have a brand new Whirlpool top loader with ATC (Automatic Temperature Control). (WTW5300VW model) When it fills with water, it pumps on and off, like pushing your foot on and off the accelerator. THis action makes quite a bit of noise and knocking sounds. It is so loud, it really can't be normal. Could it be due to the metal hoses I had them install ? (these metal hoses seem narrower than the old rubber ones, and are quite long) It happens only when it is filling to wash (on HOT or WARM, I haven't tried a cold wash). It does not do this during the rinse cycle (which is cold water).

If it is the ATC, can it be disabled?

You are experiencing surge pressure due to the ATC. It is increasing then reducing the hot water slow to maintain a pre-determined temperature.
I am not aware of a disable or bypass procedure.

I need to amend the above post.
On your temp control,if you de-select the ACCU-Wash cycle you will not be mixing water and should stop the surging.

Leaks as soon as it begins to fill

Could be several problems first off is bad center tub seal. Possibility of bad pump they are plastic and sometimes develop cracks. Could have hole in hose or possibly crack in water fill valve. Some models have the automatic temperature control function and they have extra hoses and valves for filling to exact temps they could be cracked as well.

Brand new roper washing machine model # RTW4440VQ2 the cold water is very slow filling hot is fine

This model of washer has something called an Automatic Temperature Control. This means the washer puts water into the tub at specific tempreatures instead of just 100% cold, or 100% hot. Be sure and check that the hot and cold fill hoses are connected to the proper places on the back of the washer. It's possible that the ATC (mentioned above) is causing the washer to fill slowly on the cold setting.

Roper washer: Slow fill on hot setting

You can really thank the government for this- your washer has a 75/25 split valve (75 cold 25 hot--- so warm is mostly cold) which they mandated for all standard top load machines. In 2010 they are banning manufacting of all standard top loaders. The thermistor is because your machine has a ATC (automatic temperature control) system. It has a computer which monitors water temp for better laundry care. You could possibly have a repairman (this wouldnt be covered under warrany) try to retrofit a older service valve in your machine.
