I have a busy signal and the fax says phone off the hook.. How do I get rid of this massage?

Hi,

If you dont want to use fax feature, you can simple remove the phone cable connected to your Printer and the message goes off.

You are getting this message due to faulty phone line or the same phone like being used in another room or device

Regards,
Sean

Brother mfc-420cn - fx problem

From the manual for your Brother model: To select or change your Receive mode 1. If it is not illuminated in green, press "Fax" (picture of Fax button) 2. Press - "Menu/Set, 0, 1." 3. Press - (up arrow) or (down arrow) to select "Fax Only". 4. Press - "Stop/Exit." This is just to select the "Fax Only" option, which is what you need - having a phone line strictly for the fax machine. There are 4 options on that setting, and the manual explains them in more detail. You can also set the "Ring Delay" for the fax by pressing "Menu/Set, 2, 1, 1." The options shown are "0, 1, 2, 3, or 4". It's very likely that you want to select an option OTHER than "0". This Brother manual for your model can be found at this URL: --> http://www.retrevo.com/search/fv/1d4caef84f3754461d7ce187341b923c.pdf#page=1 Hope this helps! I am getting rid of my dedicated fax line and am adding it to my land line. I am told when I have a fax coming in I will hear a double ring which mean my fax line is ringing. How do I set my fax to...

There are two ways to configure a fax machine to answer the phone line. The first way is by pushing the "auto answer" key on the keyboard of the fax itself. When this key is used, the fax machine answers all calls that come in after a certain number of rings. The other way is to manually press the fax button when an incoming call is happening. You can set the number of rings for your machine to pick up by using the keys on the fax machine under the menu feature and then scroll using the up and down arrow keys until you see fax set up and then number of rings.

I have heard about the option that your speaking of, where they give you a separate phone number for your customers to fax when you own a business line but I don't know how the fax machine itself would be able to distinguish between the normal ring of a regular call and the double ring of the merged fax line call. I was told that when I set that up for my friends business recently, that the machine would auto recognize the double ring without any programming and to use the auto answer feature for all calls. He has not had any faxes yet (its a new business) so I can't say for sure if it works or not? I can say that none of his regular calls have been picked up by the fax so far though.

Fax is always busy when sending, have the line into the phone line port and into the telephone jack, fax scans and dials and even redials but it never go through, prints out receipt that says busy/no...

Has it always done this, or did Fax once work? Sadly, Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it won't work with many modems still in common use. Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error." There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

Hope helps.
