Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop

1 Answer

Screen is black, green light is on. Disk light comes on for a second when power button is pushed, and fan comes on briefly. Otherwise, nothing. Same outcome on AC or Battery or Both. I tried the remove-AC, remove-battery, hold-power-button 30 seconds, and no change under any conditions. What else can I do? Is laptop toast?

Hi,

There are approx 6 reasons why this might happen:

  1. The backlight has gone (Find a dark place and shine a torch into the screen and see if you can see an image in the background, if you see an image then the backlight has gone) - Needs a new backlight (Engineer to remove and fit) or have a new panel fitted.
  2. The panel has died - Need a new panel
  3. A cable has worked itself loose or is broken
  4. The inverter has gone - Need new inverter
  5. Long shot, the bios has got corrupted - Engineer could re-flash the bios
  6. Long shot, Mainboard onboard graphics has gone - Need new mainboard
My personal opinion is that the backlight or inverter has gone - Either way it needs to be opened up to repair it, consult a service centre and get a quote or repair it yourself if your up for it.

Thanks

Why is my Sony VAIO VPCEB33FM green power light flashing?

It won't be the cpu. If it was, nothing would happen. I would look for a GPU issue, possible over heat.

Acer aspire 5515(laptop) screen is black turns on screen stayscompletly black...no acer logo nothing just a black screen. power button comes up green u can hear the fan and harddrive start up

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Pushed the on button, the green light comes on,

Green light comes on, what about other indicator lights? Is there activity like fans humming. Try to take out the battery and power up using the ac adapter only.

Try this, connect green wire to bare wire. Connect both black (power) wires to black wire in the box. Connect the blue wire to the button for the lights, and the red wire with the strip to the button for the fan, and the common for the buttons to the white wire.

Lights come on but no fans or powerup

Hello,

Please follow the steps below.

1. Please removed the battery and unplugged the power supply.
2. Held down the power button for 45 seconds.
3. After 45 seconds reinstalled the battery and the power supply and pushed the power button and if it works then you don't need to replace your motherboard.
4. Else try it couple of times or up to five times before it worked if worst comes to worst.

Thanks

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.
