Well start with the obvious, head-phones! if the problem is the same with a multitude of headphones, it could be the sound card or the headphone jack. maybe you got some sort of liquid or water in the jack? if that's the case you would have to send it in to apple, but call first and they will help you out.

(something you could try, but im not so sure, you can adjust the volume, treble and bass levels on each song through itunes but i forgot how to do it at the moment. play around with it.)

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I got his ipod touch 1st gen. on the internet and everything worked except for the sound on the music but i figured out tht i could her the sound faintly but i cant get it to turn up.....ive tried the...

Since you got this from the internet I think the person you bought it from might be messing with you. On the iPod touch it is possible to limit how loud music is played, and a prankster might do this to you. To check if they did this:
  1. On your iPod, go to the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to "Music."
  3. Choose "Volume Limit"
Here is where you would be able to find out if there is a volume limit on your iPod. If they didn't lock it then you can slide the volume slider all the way to the right, but if they did lock the volume, you have to go to option 2.
Option 2 is to restore it with iTunes. And this will fix just about anything that goes wrong with your iPod.
  1. Plug your iPod into iTunes and sync it.
  2. On the sidebar on the left, click on your iPod and go to the summary tab.
  3. Click on restore and let iTunes do its thing.
  4. After it is restored you should be able to put all of your music back on it and hopefully the iPod will be fixed.
Good luck!

Volume stays low won't increase

Your volume limit on your ipod is probably set low. To check it, go all of the way to the ipod's main menu and go to settings. Then go to volume limit and put it where you would like it to be if it is too low. Then go back to your music and play it. Turn the volume up to your liking and it should work and play louder.

Cant hear songs

It sounds like your headphone/hold cable is faulty. Try plugging it into a sound device with a docking bay. If no sound comes out of there either then it's a faulty logic board.

slapping can give out more damage when it is not executed properly, it will be best if you try and try to load the iPod's restoration tool and or format it using your iTunes.

Unlocking the volume control on 80G Classic ipod

Heres how to unlock the volume control, Don't listen to music to loudly. It will destroy your hearing.

open my computer and then

  1. Enable hidden folders.
Go to "Tools", "Folder Options". Then click on the tab called "View", and under "Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show Hidden Files and Folders". I honestly do not know how to do this on a mac. I'm simply stupid.
  2. Navigate to the hidden folder named "iPod_Control", and once there click on the folder "Device". Once there, delete the file named "_volumelocked".
  3. Eject your iPod. Then, restart your iPod. You can do this by holding down the center and menu button for at least 6 seconds.
  4. Once your iPod has rebooted, check and make sure that it worked. Simply go into "Settings", "Volume Limit". If it asks for a PIN, you did it WRONG. Retry the above procedure.
