Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Denon avr 3802 reciever. DVD connected by coaxial, PS3 connected by optical 1. I have added a Sony bdp 360s blu ray player to optical 2 & get no sound. I have used the Denon menu system & assigned the optical inputs but still get no sound for the blu ray. I have swapped over the connections & the blu ray works but when i put it back no sound. I have also tried the optical 3 input but still no success.

I think the blu-ray player software and the DVD player software is blocking the sound driver. Try the sound troubleshooting.

You cannot get 5.1 sound from DVDs that are not encoded with 5.1 sound. They may be stereo, which will only send sound to the main front L/R speakers.

If Denon blu ray has coaxial or optical out for audio, then your Denon receiver will process this signal and will give you 7.1 out sound.

How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy

Connecting Sony BDP S550 Blu-ray player to my Denon 3802 receiver.

The only thing you need is an optical audio cable (toslink) connecting the Blu-ray blayer with one of the three inputs on the AVR3802. Then assign this input in the system menu to the input you like (e. g. DVD) and that should be it. The Receiver automatically detects the sound format from the Blu-ray and changes from stereo to DTS, DD5.1, 7.1 or whatever.

Thomas
