Keating fryer won't stay lit

Hard to light, onxe we light the pilot and try to start the pre burners it blows out most of the time, when we do get them to lite it takes a long time for main the 4 main burners to egnite, when they do they will only burn for 3 minutes or so and then everything goes out. This is an older unit, with 4 main burners, instant recovery. We just bought it used.

Check the thermopile impingement from the pilot flame. Is the pilot yellow and soft? If the unit was sitting for a long time the pilot assembly may have debris in it. If the pilot is not strong the draft caused by the main burners in operation will cause the pilot flame to move away from the thermopile causing the ASO to drop out. Try using some compressed air around the pilot assembly or use a mechanical air pump on pilot assembly tubing to try and clear pilot. Also a plugged regulator vent can cause pressure problems. Check appliance regulator vent screen/hole is not plugged with grease or debris.

You might want to see about getting your money back or swapping it for another. I'm guessing it is a natural gas model. If so check and make sure you have between 4 and 5 water columm gas pressure. If so I would start by checking the thermopile and make sure it's producing around 700 milivolts. If your not able to measure this or have the tools to do so, I would start by replacing the thermopile. (This is not a thermocouple.)If this does not fix the problem. You have a bad gas valve. Thermopile cost around $60.00. Gas valve runs around $30000You can go this web site for more info http://www.tmeinc.biz/xkeat.htm

I have an American Range fryer with a thermopile, the pilot will stay lite until the burner comes on then it seems to blow the pilot light out, not every time either....any ideas?

The pilot light has only a small orifice and this can carbon shut with time; with a small wire, you can try cleaning it.
They may also provide a separate adjustable valve for the pilot and this setting may have drifted over time, shrinking the flame height and therefore resistance to being extinguished.

Fryer wont stay lit, only two burners will lite, and will only stay lit for about 5 min. will then go out and must start over

Check the gas pressure, it must meet the standard gas pressure written on the nameplate. Check also the quality of pilot flame, poor pilot flame quality will not properly heat up the thermopile which in turn will result in poor fryer operation.

Hi i have a new imperial fryer and im tring to light it and cant seem to get it to work. any idea on how to get it working?

Have a lighter handy (I use one of the elongated ones for caravaners)
in-between the burners is a pilot light (top right) keep the lighter flame where the gas comes out.
On the right hand side of the fryer at the bottom is a gas valve with a little black knob.
Press and hold the black knob in and gas will come out of the pilot light and ignite by the lighter flame. You need to hold the button in for quite a while. (until it stays lit)
When it stays lit depress the little black knob and turn it anti clockwise. Gas comes out of the burners and ignites from the pilot light. When it reaches temp. it will cut out.
To turn it off turn the little black knob clockwise. To turn the pilot light off, push and turn clockwise.

Light pilot on Royal deep fryer. Pilot will not stay lit. Second fryer has larger pilot have no trouble keeping it lit. How can I adjust the pilot so that it will stay lit?

there is a small adjustment screw on the gas valve, turn it clockwise to increase pilot,if that does not work the vent cap on the gas regulator on the back of the unit could be stopped up,remove that cap ,clean out or replace unit can operate without it just fine.If you increase the pilot and it still wont stay lit replace the thermocouple

Main burner too hot & 2nd burner pilot won't

Set t/stat to 250 degrees. If it does not shut off after about 5 minutes, replace t/stat.If shuts off, must be calibrated Pilot may be dirty, flame weak. If flame strong, replace thermopile(pilot generator). If weak, must remove and clean pilot orifice inside pilot.

Imperial fryer IFS-40

I had a very simular problem. My fryer would do exactly as you described, but sometimes the pilot light would stay on until the burners tried to re-ignite and then it would go out.
I finally had to call the gas company. They took the pilot light apart and cleaned it. The fryer works perfect now.
Hope this helps!
