Question about Kodak ESP 5 Printer

Printhead missing messag

8 weeks after purchase and just after the 30th page was printed then following Printhead missing , not installed message came in and stopped the printer completely . I have installed / reinstalled the printhead , cleaned the printhead , replaced the cartridges and still 1 week later trying no joy .
If Kodak cannot get there printers to print beyond 30 sheets of paper then |I would suggest to everyone to steer clear . looking at all the other blogs there seems to be USB issues , connectivity issues , software load up issues and printer getting stuck .
wonder did Kodak do any Quality assuarce on the rpinter like they should or are they using us a Guniepigs for that .
If any Kodak people are watching this blog , I dare you to come on and tell us its a brinnent piece of kit !!

Hp 8600 missing or damaged print cartridge how to fix?


If you observe the error message "One of more ink cartridges may be missing or damaged", "Cartridge Damaged", or "Ink Cartridge Failure", "The following cartridges are not intended for use in this Printer", etc. then the printer is not recognizing the installation of the refilled ink cartridge(s) or 'smart chip' which is affixed to the rear side of ink cartridge is causing the detection issue. This type of issue can also be caused by a bent pin on the PRINTHEAD assembly or one (or more) electrical contacts are dirty on the PRINTHEAD assembly (especially if the same error occurs with a brand new HP ink cartridge). Typically, the problem is usually an incompatible smart chip which is affixed to the rear-side of the ink cartridge.

(1) It is first suggested you remove the respective ink cartridge from the printer and thoroughly clean the cartridge's smart chip's gold contacts/electrical surfaces using an isopropyl dampened lint-free towel. Ensure no ink residue is present on surface of the chip. Also ensure the chip is located in the proper position. If you continue to observe "One of more ink cartridges may be missing or damaged" alert messages, please note that printer firmware versions CKP5CN1334ER for the newer HP Office jet Pro 8100 and 8600 printer series (manufactured after Nov./Dec. 2013) do not allow the replacement chip to function (this problem temporarily impacts brand new HP printers only -- this problem will be resolved sometime in June 2014 with the release of upgraded smart chips to all Costco stores which will work in the newer printer models).

Confirm if your printer is impacted:

1. Verify 8100/8600 printer firmware - print the PRINTER STATUS REPORT or PRINT QUALITY DIAGNOSTIC page to verify your firmware version.
2. To print the printer status report, on the printer control panel, press and hold the (Cancel) button for three seconds (i.e. 8100 models). Alternatively, you can print either of the reports from the TOOLS menu if this does work.....OR.......

Print head


The carriage does not accept one or more of the printheads. Typical causes are dirty contacts on the printheads or carriage, defective printhead(s), or a defective carriage.
If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.
  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Allow printer to complete initialization.
  3. With the printhead icon highlighted, press ENTER.
  4. Select Replace Printheads and press ENTER.
  5. If the message "Printheads still functional" appears, select Yes to continue testing the printheads.
  6. Open the top cover.
  7. Open the carriage cover and remove all of the printheads.
  8. Turn the printer off.
  9. Clean the electrical contacts on the carriage and the printheads using a lint-free cloth dampened with water.
  10. (for this step I suggest using the erraser on the back of a regular pencil instead of a cloth and water)
  11. Allow the contacts to dry.
  12. Reinstall the printheads and close the carriage cover.
  13. Close the top cover.
  14. Turn the printer on and attempt to verify functionality, as instructed in Step 19.
  15. If the error reappears, replace the affected printhead(s).
    NOTE: If the printhead error icon is a question mark, each printhead will have to be tested separately, as the printer is not sure which printhead is causing the problem.
    1. Following replacement of the suspect printhead(s), attempt to verify functionality (Step 19).
    2. If the problem persists following, replace the carriage and trailing cable (refer to pages 8-36 to 8-46 of the service manual).
    3. Following replacement, turn the printer on.
    4. Make sure the printhead alignment completes successfully and that no error messages appear on the front panel.
    5. Print a troubleshooting plot (as instructed below) to ensure the print quality is acceptable.
      1. On the front panel, select the printer icon and press ENTER.
      2. Select Utilities and press ENTER.
      3. Press the UP and ENTER buttons simultaneously.
      4. Select Yes to enter the Service Menu.
      5. Select Service Utilities and press ENTER.
      6. Print pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 to prove printer functionality.

Do any one have trouble with the hp 920 inkjets/refills


Regarding your question about the HP 920 (or 920XL) refilled cartridge usage/problem...we are guessing you are observing poor print quality or a missing color(s)? Please note this type of problem occurs now and then and is completely recoverable. The most common cause of poor print quality is trapped air between the ink cartridge and PRINTHEAD*, so we suggest you perform the "Clean PrintHead" procedure from your printer control panel (i.e. select 'Tools' - 'Clean Printhead', or similar), you may need to perform it twice (2X) to recover the ink system. If this doesn't work you may wish to jump straight to procedure E.

Please read thru all the checks below prior to beginning:
NOTE: If one or more the colors were previously dry fired during printing (i.e. if you continued printing using only a few colors to one, air may have been accidently ingested into the ink lines between the cartridge(s) and PRINTHEAD*. - Please note that poor print problems are somewhat common and is completely recoverable in most cases.

Then we suggest you run the self-test print (under maintenance/tools menu), this will verify nozzle performance and that each color is firing a solid band of color (i.e. you should not see any bands or missing lines in the pattern). This is also a good test to help isolate which color (or portion of the electronic PRINTHEAD*) may be causing the issue.

D. If a problem persists (poor print quality/missing colors, etc.), then we suggest that you thoroughly review the steps outlined on our HP 920 support pages, including PRINTHEAD* removal/printer cleaning and service station cleaning. 1. Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
2. Remove the printhead - in most cases you will need to pull up on the lever at right side of carriage assembly to unlock the printhead. Lift printhead straight up to remove.
3. Over a sink, run warm tap water directly into the 4 ink ports for approximately 2 minutes - this will effectively saturate the foam ports and blow ink out/thru the nozzle plate bottom.
4. Using a lint-free towel, remove water from rear/bottom electrical contacts. Ensure printhead electrical contacts and exposed surfaces are fully dry.
5. Install the printhead into the printer. You may observe a "Replace Printhead message" so you will need to cycle printer power by turning printer off and then on to clear the error.
6. Install ink cartridges and retest printer. You should observe a New PRINTHEAD alert message followed by an approx. 4-minute preparation countdown prompt.
7. If permissible, activate the 'Clean Printhead'. This can be done from the printer's control panel or software printer driver (for example, by selecting 'Tools' - 'Clean Printhead', or similar).

*The HP 920 printer models have an electronic PRINTHEAD (customer replaceable) within the base of the carriage assembly (responsible for pulling ink from the 4 ink cartridges and then firing the ink droplets onto the paper) - the PRINTHEAD will eventually fail over time depending on printed content, frequency of printing and printer duty cycle.

Printer will not recognize the new cartridge installed.


Solution
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
NOTE: If error messages also display on the computer, clear the error messages after each of the following steps. You might have to delete pending print jobs from the print queue on the computer to clear the error messages.

Step one: Perform a power reset
Follow these steps to reset the product. Make sure you connect the product directly to a wall outlet and not a surge protector or power strip.

Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product.
NOTE: The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
Wait 30 seconds.
Replug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
If the issue persists , see the next step.
Step two: Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the product
The ink nozzles on the printheads might clog if you expose them to air for more than a few minutes. The ink nozzles also might clog if you do not use the product for long periods of time. Follow these steps to clean the electrical contacts on the printheads.
CAUTION: Follow these steps carefully to avoid damaging the sensitive electrical components.
Make sure that the product is turned on.
Open the top cover of the product.
Press and hold the OK button for five seconds. The carriage moves to the left side of the product. Release the OK button.
Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
Unplug the product power cord from the electrical outlet.
NOTE: Do not turn the product off by pressing the Power button ( ). This causes the carriage to move out of reach.
Lift the printhead latch.


Lift the handle on the printhead that the error message indicates is missing or damaged, and then pull the printhead out of its slot.

Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth to remove any ink from the electrical contacts on the printhead.
CAUTION: Wipe only the electrical contacts. Wiping the ink nozzles, located on the underside of the printhead, can damage the printhead.Do not touch the nozzles. Doing so permanently damages the ink nozzles, and the ink stains clothing.

Wipe the electrical contacts with the swab until no ink residue remains.
Wipe the electrical contacts with a fresh cloth to dry them and remove lint.
After the electrical contacts on the printhead are clean and dry, place the printhead on a sheet of paper or a paper towel. Make sure that the ink nozzles face up and do not touch the paper.
  1. Use a fresh, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the electrical contacts inside the product. Figure 4: Clean the electrical contacts inside the product
  2. Allow at least five minutes for the contacts to dry. Check the contacts for lint or debris, and then dry or clean the contacts again if needed.
  3. Plug the product power cord into the electrical outlet.
  4. Press the Power button ) to turn on the product. 'Printhead missing or damaged, replace the printhead' displays on the control panel.
  5. Insert the printhead into its color-coded slot. Press down firmly on the printhead to make sure the electrical contacts touch.
  6. Pull the printhead latch all the way forward, and then press down to engage the latch. If the error message indicates that both printheads are missing or damaged, repeat the steps in this procedure to clean the other printhead.
  7. Close the top cover of the product. The product restarts and then prints an alignment page.

Kadak Easy Share 5300 printer. Screen reads "Please wait"-stuck


Try this one
Take out the inks and printhead
Leave the cartridge door open, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the access door is open
Close the cartridge door once the cord is unplugged
Reconnect the powercord, turn on the printer, then your printer will look for your printhead "Printhead missing or not installed correctly..."
Then put everything back. make sure it will snap in to place. Then print a calibration page, then scan it. This is just over writing the error message.

To resolve the error condition:
  1. Open the printer access door.
  2. Remove the color and black ink cartridges.

Error message: Printhead missing, not installed correctly or has come loose


In regards to the error message with the printhead missing or come loose......I had that issue just shortly after I installed my printer. I was going crazy trying to fix it taking it out and reinstalling which was a pain, removing the cartridges and then the printhead to no avail. Finally I got smart and disconnected the power cord from the printer itself, not directly from the outlet. Once I did that and turned the printer back on the error was gone. It might have been a fluke, but it worked for me, so you might want to try it.
