Hi,

Try to check your hard drive. Use a utility tool specially made for the manufacturer of your hard drive. Ex. Seagate Hard Drive = Seatools
Western Digital = Data Lifeguard.

Check for any errors or bad sectors on the hard drive

  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.

My daughters Asus eee pc MK90H notebook says windows could not start because system 32 is missing or corrupt. It says to use the original CD Rom, which obviously we dont have. Help what do we do?

Hi,
To restore a missing or corrupt ntfs.sys file you must have the Windows XP CD and follow the below steps.

Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer and restart the computer.
As the computer is starting make sure to press a key to boot from the CD.
In the Windows XP setup screen press the 'R' key to run the Windows Recovery Console.
If prompted enter the number of Windows installation you're repairing.
At the command prompt type the below command.

copy x:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers

* In the above example you would replace x: with the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Many computers have the CD-ROM drive configured as the D: drive.

If ntfs.sys is still on the computer you'll be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file. If prompted, press the Y key for Yes to overwrite the file.
Once the file has been successfully copied remove the CD and reboot your computer.

Do NOT use an OEM "Recovery Disc". Only a valid Windows XP media will work or a disc from the OEM that says "Operating System" may sometimes work depending on how the manufacturer labeled the CD.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more information Thanks

Setup cannot copy the file:p3.sys

This has to be a problem with your installation disc itself make sure it is not scratched. If it is a backup copy the files may have gotten corrupted. You will need to a get a new copy of the installation disc to be able to install.

Windows installation issues

Either you have a defective CD, or a defective Hard Drive, or defective memory. Firstly is this a clean install? Try reformatting the drive and running chkdsk or a manufacturers disk utility. Then remove fingerprints and other marks from CD by wiping from the centre outwards. Let me know how you get on.

STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):\System Root\System32\Config\SECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

to fix the problem, you need the Installation cd, put it in, start the setup, and enter repair console when the first blue menu comes up.

In repair console, your going to have to copy the windows\repair directory to system32\config

to fix the problem.

After the files have been copyed, Well maybe might be better if you only copy the SECURITY file. so no login details get changed.

Then restart the pc and see if it worked. If not your going to have to perform a repair installation from the xp cd.

If you need more asistance, let me know. Good luck.
