Re: no soud on laptop
Check bottom of main screen to see if you see the speaker icon, right click on it, go to properties, and make sure it is set for Laptop speakers. Make sure volume is turned up. If needed, go to control panel, then device manager and update the soundcard drivers.
If your laptop has a line-in jack, follow the instructions above for connecting a music player to a desktop computer. But to connect a music player or other audio device to most laptops, you'll have to plug it into a microphone jack. To do so, follow these steps:

Click to open Sound.

Click the Recording tab, click Microphone, and then click Properties.

Click the Listen tab, click the Listen to this device check box, and then click Apply.

Click the Levels tab and make sure the Mute button looks like this . The Problem> Sound: Placing the mouse pointer over the ICON to the lower right of your screen should indicate the percentage of Volume your speakers are adjusted for. Right click and you get the Open Volume Mixer section. The playback devices can be your computer speakers or a separate headset with microphone. Here you can make adjustments accordingly. At the bottom are Volume Control Options that allow you to increase or decrease the audio reception. Generally, when you insert an external Headphone with Microphone into the sound port in; an automatic disconnect may occur preventing computer speakers from working. This is common with Laptops. If you lack sound, you may need to update the sound drivers, change cables, and/or check to see if the speakers work on another device.
All you need to do is get a USB based sound adapter 16/32BIT MINIMUM to plug your speakers straight into your laptop with better sound. Many laptops will have limited sound OUTPUT which places large limitations on pushing sound through your nice speakers. You already know the problem is not the speakers or new cables, therefore you know that problem has been isolated to your laptop. You may also check the volume settings in the laptop to ensure your running the highest possible BIT or volume enhacement software. Let me know if this does the trick for you.
Hopefully this helps. Right click on your volume control icon. Open the "Volume Mixer," and make sure that nothing has the mute X on. Then right click on "Volume Control," and make sure that the volume control is checked to play all sounds, and that your Speaker box is checked. Next step is your music, if the sound was muted directly @ the music playback, this could be the problem. Open your Media Player and try to play music, if you cannot hear it, click on the mute button to the song playing. If your Player was shut off in the "mute" mode, then you will not hear sound. It Happened to me once. You will need to check all of your "Players" to see if any of them were shut off in "mute."
Does the laptop play CDs?
If so then when you start a DVD and before you play the movie, go into the audio setting and configure the speakers for laptop stereo speakers.
If you cannot hear music from the CD then check :-
1. The audio settings, volume not set to minimum and mute is not ticked (enabled)
2. Device manager - sound device is enabled and working, if not re-install the sound driver.
Go in control panel look for sound and open it.See if sound is enabled if not do it in there.Go to start/all programs/accesories/entertainment/sounde and adjust the volume of the sound in there.Go to my computer /properties/device manager/sound device and see if sound driver is up to date or if it has a yellow '?'' next to it.If so update the driver.
