Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My new Dell is asking for the 'Dell communications (Support Software)' disk. I do not have one. Was it suppose to be in the box? The product is from Costco. Dell INSPIRON 545. It does not show up in your list. This is a desktop with a 23" monitor.

Ok...so after i did a system restore after finding out that had some viruses and such on my computer, the computer did the system restore completely and successfully, but now there is a pop up that...

You'll have to uninstall the Dell Support software.

Go to Start > Control Panel

Then click on Add or Remove programs, see if it's in the list (Dell support).

If it's not there, then it will be in your Services or Startup, go to Start > Run... type "msconfig" without the quotes. This will open the System Configuration utility.

Go to the Services tab, and check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services". Now look for a Dell service that is causing the pop-up error, and UNCHECK the box to disable it.

Do the same step again for the Startup tab.

I have Frontpage 2003. It was installed on my old computer. I recently got a new computer and Frontpage will not acccept my key code. I wrote it on the actual disk years ago to prevent loss. HELP!

It is possible that your serial key was a one-time use one or a limited-use one. You could always call Microsoft or send an email to have them check this, provide the serial key when they ask you. Although they might ask you for information found only on the box of the software, so if you still have the box,you should look for it, just in case.

Theres something popping up always on my screen asking to "insert the Dell Communications( Support Software) disk and click ok. but where am i gonna get that software i dont have that software..trying...

Could be a problem with the software or that the software is missing. Uninstal Dell Support software through Programs and features and reinstall here;
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/services/en/dsc_home?c=us&l=en&s=gen
Clcik on "start" at lower left of screen, find "control panel" and click on to open. In your list(icons) find "Programs and features". Right click on and open. Find "Dell Support Center" in your list. Right click on that and click uninstall. When finished, retsrat computer. Now, go to link above and do the download. Restart again when finished. Look in programs and features to make sure it showed back up.

I have a problem with a pop up screen that keeps popping up saying to "insert a dell communications (support software) disk but we were not supplied with any disk of that sort. how do we correct this?

Click on "start", find "control panel" and click on that to open. In the control panel find "programs and features", right click on and open. If you see Dell Support Center in you list of programs, Uninstall it. If you don't have Dell support center you can download it here:

This should cure your problem.

The computer ask for product key..... i bought a new laptop and the sales rep says ms office is already saved on my computer..

You need to tell the sales rep that you need the product installation code for MS Office 2007 and it was part of the package you purchased.
Ask for the installation MS Office CD the documentation and the product installation code, as well as the Windows installation CD and product installation code.
You will need these if you have to install these onto a new hard disk.

An error code 1706 keeps coming up. It says "no valid source could be found for product Dell Connections (Support Software). "The Windows Installer cannot continue. I'm not trying to install anything and...

Microsoft says that Error 1706 is a Microsoft Office Error code which
indicates that required files can not be found by Setup. Since you
are trying to install new programs I feel that this is probably the
correct interpretation of your error code.
