Http:// better find somone to do it for you ..or a friend that has some skills on electronics...cause its not that easy ..but not really complicated...another solution is to contact the manufacturer ..cause they might have some kinda supervisor or backdoor password for all them models......this particular model has the password stored in a special chip ...that does not delete itself after removing or shorting the bios power...

IBM Thinkpad t43p bios password

The solution is different for each model, so if it's not on the list it probably won't work. IBM bios issues usually involve motherboard replacements or the epprom needs to be changed in order to access it. If the person who gave it to you, is there a chance you can get the information? you can try ebay, there are sellers who claim they can resolve the problem.

When turning my laptop on all I get is a black screen with a lock symbol in the upper left corner, requiring a password

Ufortunately there is no easy solution for this problem, the bios is password locked preventing window startup. Removing the main and the cmos battery will not work because it retains the information regardless how long the power has been removed. If you are the original owner you can contact IBM to have your password remove for a fee, the other possibility is to check out ebay sellers who offer this service, but be carefull some don't deliver as promised. The only other approach is change the motherboard or replace the eprom chip ( 8 pin ic )

I got an old T23 and when I powered, it just display a drawing something like 1 disk lock and asking for a password. How can I remove and proceed to cmos menu?

If this is bios password locked this is not good news, dis-connecting the power supply, the main battery, and the cmos battery from the motherboard will not work. The laptop uses a ep-prom chip that is flashed with the password, unless you can obtain the password from whom you got it from you are faced with a very difficult task of solving the problem. The first option is remove the ep-prom chip from the motherboard and order a replacement from ebay, the second choice is replace the motherboard, and the final choice is check out ebay sellers who claim they have a solution at a price. But I would go on line and learn as much as possible and you may be able to come with a solution.

My IBM think pad T20 has lock when turning on and i dont have password

How did you set the password?
Did you buy this laptop from someone?
If you did you need to get the password from that person.
There is no backdoor password available and removing the BIOS battery will not remove the passowrd because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip.
You need the password to boot up the laptop and then into the BIOS configuration to remove the power on password.

I have a ibm thinkpad t20 and when the internal battery died the computer started asking for a password when booting up. I know how to reset the password on a desktop but this thinkpad has me stumped. Can...

the default BIOS password for this model is merlin but if that doesn't work you have a hard drive password set and may for lack of a better term be screwed. You can try zero wiping the harddrive from another system assuming you have the right cabling/adapters.

If the Hardrive is locked but the BIOS password works you can also acquire a new hard drive cheaper than a password cracker in most cases.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Forgot bios password for ibm thinkpad 2647 win98

To reset the laptop you need to remove the CMOS battery for ten seconds or so.

On Thinkpads the battery is hidden on one side after you remove the bottom doors, usually inside the RAM slot.

Here is how it looks like:

Althought the operation is not complicate, it requires disassembly part of the unit, and should still be done by a technician.

Laptop main battery pack must be removed before opening the door at the bottom, and internal components and boards must not be touched with bare fingers.

Stuck at IBM Thinkpad Splash Screen

Sound like a memory chip has failed. Try removing the memory, I believe these have on board, but not sure. If it doesn't have on board, you will need at least one chip in. If the problem is still there, try removing the CD drive, occasionally they can cause a no start. If it's not the memory or the CD drive, then try a bios flash. You will need to create a bootable disc from IBM's support site using a different machine (obviously).
If the bios flash doesn't fix it, them the problem will lie with the motherboard.
